  4.  @therealivydawg  depends upon who’s speaking of the term. To the minority living under things like “J. Crow” and “the ugly laws”, one must be aware of the grim reality of an existence as a second class citizen - or, worse, being labeled as not fully human. To be asleep to this reality means one is ripe for being preyed upon. To be awake to it is a necessary condition so as to survive. To those who think themselves to be Übermenschen, however, to be “woke” means one is aware of the fantasy propounded in books like “My Struggle” that to be of a certain, pale complexion means one is better than all other people, and that in every conceivable way. More, this supposed superiority is not earned, but innate, a fact of one’s genetics alone. This was attested to by the Nazi slogan, “Deutschland, Erwache!” (Wake Up, Germany!)
