  2. Believe me, I am not a boomer and I acknowledge that there has been crap music throughout the whole 20th century and I like a lot of new music... (here comes the "but") ... but, the 2010s and 2020s really seem to be about how to make pop music as annoying, fake, harsh and superficial as possible. It's almost as if popular music nowadays is like McDonald's 2.0... on steroids. PS I also acknowledge that there is still great music around.

  4. Like 7 years ago I first thought Rick was mainly a composer who used keyboards and pianos to demonstrate theory and composition. Later I read that he also plays guitar and bass, but probably more guitar because of his videos and having a degree (Master, conservatory). And of course being a producer. I guess Rick is someone who has skills in music theory, production, composition, and plays guitar and piano. Next to guitar as a main instrument, perhaps piano mainly to figure out theory and demonstrate things, but I wouldn't assume it. And, evidently, now being an interviewer on YouTube blending general subjects with academic ones.

  5. There are still more people in the world 'not' listening to the worst current pop music like Taylor Swift, Drake or Katy Perry. Streams per artists per year don't mean that much as media and certain people try to make you believe. They are only a measurement of single artists. And it is definitely not the case that everyone 'listening' to an artists actually liking it. Perhaps they are only checking it out or having it played on the background without paying attention. More people in the world listen to the following artists combined, which are pretty good: The Weeknd, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Adele, The Beatles, Nirvana, Queen, Daft Punk, Linkin Park, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, OneRepublic, Metallica, Kanye West, Oasis, Bob Marley. And millions of people around the world are also listening to less huge selling but still big artists/bands such as Led Zeppelin, Rammstein, Frank Sinatra, AC/DC, Mozart, traditional music. And you have another number of millions of people that listen to less well-known music, according to mass-popular standards. So, everything combined still makes that people don't massively listen to the worst pop music of the 2010s and 2020s. People listen to all sorts of music, that's it. I wouldn't worry that much if I were you.

It feels a bit like Bobby is either not really interested and just answers questions like it's a cross-examination or just one of the 1000s boring interviews, or, on the other hand, perhaps he's just a bit old and introverted. I think Rick is a great interviewer though, sincerely interested as well.

  7. Okay, but was it really a lot better 20-40 years ago? I have noticed that Rick Beato complains a lot about current phenomena in music but was it really that better in the old days or is it more that Rick just 'values' certain things more from the old days? A lot of good stuff was made in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 20s but a lot of crap as well, let's be honest. To say it differently: was it really better decades ago or is it more like certain people have a stronger feeling and set of values with those times?

  8. PS My favourite bands and artists are from the 70s-90s so I am not necessarily a proponent of current music. (Nor am I of older music, I just like everything.)
