  53. Jesse, you can't just run on what you said "not belonging to any party" but you have to run on a message like.. "This is what I want to do", "This is how I will fix that", "These are my thoughts on our current healthcare in America and what I plan to do to change it for the better for every American". You have to have a reason why you're running. "Energy independence" "Promoting new alternative fuels to stop global climate change" Things like that. Also do away with corporations paying zero dollars in taxes or even getting a refund, which is now happening. Counter that with "No American business or corporation may pay less than 27% of their earnings, which happens to be the average of what employees pay. "Raise minimum wage to a living wage and also no longer use the term minimum wage. From now on we will call it "Living wage" and once you find a dollar figure that will pass in the House and Senate, also add annual inflation rates so that if last year, inflation went up 2%, your wage would also go up 2%. That way a living wage will automatically keep up with the times and no one will have to ever deal with this problem again. Bring factory jobs back home. Not everyone is cut out to be a professional or wants to be one or forced into that stressful situation. Also say when all Americans do well they also can give more to people that are suffering domestically and abroad. You gotta have a very strong message. One that will hit hard on our economy and jobs. Stop oursourcing. Kill NAFTA, CAFTA and any other bills that allow outsourcing. You can call businesses that outsource, anti-American. That will hit hard at home. I can go on and on yet I do not see anyone running on these themes except maybe Bernie Sanders.

  152. William Claypoole And Republicans and Libertarians are nothing more than Marxists, oligarchs and oligopolists, if you've been following Thom Hartmann's videos.. Next, you don't know me at all to say that I'm angry or that I have fear. Do not pretend to know who I am. The progressives in this country want the country to move forward to benefit all. Clearly, non-democrats are not. They fully support the rich and corporations. If you can't see that then, you need to get your head out of your ass.  That new wave your talking about is nutsville land and only from the southern states does this craziness exist, throw in Wisconsin too. Yes I agree with you on both parties but I think the tyranny comes more from the right wing fanatics, not the progressives. I know what the constitution says and if you think the Libertarians are going to adhere to it any more that the Republicans or Democrats, you are sorrily mistaken sir. The only way a Libertarian president will ever fulfill his or her agenda is that you'd have to have a Senate and Congress filled with their ilk and we all know that won't happen. Just like the Republicans, the Libertarians too have gone into a metamorphosis. You no longer see the Ralph Nader types any more.  So I submit to you, don't be brainwashed by your own Libertarian Party. To me, they're not much different from the nutty Republican Party. Be sure to check your mirror for that illusion that you're living in. Sometimes one doesn't know if he, too, is brainwashed. What I am not is delusional but I believe that you could be from the sounds of what you have written.. That's my take on you, even though I don't know you nor would I want to.

  192. Tumblr suckss Believe me when I say that I played no part in any of those things you mentioned so try to not broad brush because it makes you sound foolish. The baby boomers came from all walks of life all across the country. The span of this group was, I believe, over 25 years and I'm sort of at the tail end of it. It seems that you're upset with governmental decisions and, yes, most of those elected are baby boomers but today, there are more younger people who just don't participate in the electoral process, meaning do you ever vote? The data that comes back always show that the youth in this country don't go to the polls in large numbers. So you don't get to say you care about this and that and not vote. If you do vote, then it's still sad to say that many in your age group don't. Yes, politics suck in this country and that's mostly do to people not watching the news and therefore don't know what's going on until it's too late. As I've aged, I've become more of a cynic about everything people do. If you want to know what's in my head look no further than some old YouTube clips of George Carlin. I am like him in almost every way. As for our national debt, it will never be paid off. Why? Because, capitalism is a pyramid scheme. When Ronald Reagan was elected president is when he gave huge tax cuts to the wealthy and said that it would result in trickle down economics. Well it didn't. He also tripled the national debt 300% during is 8 years in office. After Reagan we've had 2 presidents who outsourced jobs by the millions creating multinational corporations and they were Bill Clinton (NAFTA), George W Bush (CAFTA). Now we have Barack Obama who wants to pass something called The TPP aka (SHAFTA). If that happens, more american jobs will be lost. These were good paying jobs that went overseas and you wonder why the debt cannot be paid off. Both parties suck, IMHO. And, yes, I wholeheartedly believe that capitalism will soon fall apart completely and it will because we are already an oligarchy and plutocratic runned country. All our politicians have been bought off by corporate special interests. You can entirely thank our Supreme Court for giving personhood to corporations which allow them to give unlimited sums of money for campaign contributions. And, in return, after those bought politicians become elected, then political favors are repaid to the corporations in the form of tax cuts creating the income inequality we have today. Yes, the USA is spiraling out of control with absolutely no end in sight. Who's to blame? The public voter, that's who.

  329. Ban tobacco? No! Even though I haven't smoked since 1988, having the mindset of banning tobacco just doesn't make any sense. Alcohol kills just like tobacco so why not ban alcohol too? Ridiculous right? I think people ought to choose whether they wan't to smoke or not. And in the video, I guess you can now get your nicotine in the form of vapor e-cigs, chewing nicotine gum, and so on. Here are some fact about alcohol: Alcohol linked to 75000 US deaths a year - NBC News source: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/6089353/ns/health-addictions/t/alcohol-linked-us-deaths-year/#.VGQJriPF9O4 Drinking too much can harm your health. Excessive alcohol use led to approximately 88,000 deaths and 2.5 million years of potential life lost (YPLL) each year in the United States from 2006 – 2010, shortening the lives of those who died by an average of 30 years. source: http://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/fact-sheets/alcohol-use.htm And worldwide: 2.5 Million Alcohol-Related Deaths Worldwide- Annually Source: https://ncadd.org/in-the-news/155-25-million-alcohol-related-deaths-worldwide-annually So, should be ban alcohol now Thom? Think of all the jobs that will be lost... Also, CVS Pharmacy has made the choice to no longer sell tobacco products so if tobacco products are to go by the wayside, let it be done at the local level or let it be a choice like CVS. Heck I've driven from Connecticut to Florida a couple of times and I remembered wanting to buy some beer and then stay at a hotel to rest up but no, it was a dry area and I'm told dry areas exist all over America. So I say let's just leave it alone Thom. Again, I have to disagree with you when you talk about tobacco. Your arguments just don't hold up. I agree with the caller, Jeff Stier, on all points talked about.

  340. ***** That was a long read but I read and understand what you said but I have common sense. Politically, I'm centrist with left leanings because I will always believe that poor people need help and that they are not lazy or takers. It's hard for me to believe people can be this sheepish and stick with a party no matter what they mutate into (referencing, of course, the Republican Party). I would like to think that most common people have some kind of morality. I'm not religious in any way but I believe my principles are moral towards others. I'm proud of my left leanings and care about the people of this country no matter who you are. It seems like the Republicans are at some kind of war with people, as you had said, that don't meet their standards and how anyone can follow that is beyond me and to also call yourself religious? No... You're, not you ;-), only hiding behind religion as a front to something else. All in all I thoroughly believe that being a Republican is just another kind of religion. Back when Clinton, a two-term president, was in office, I was a Democrat. Then this crap about him and sex with women completely angered me. Then when it became true, Monica Lewinsky, well that was it for me and my allegiance to that party. The other part I didn't like about Clinton was that he pushed and signed into legislation the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). That ended up killing a lot of American jobs. Here I sit now a party unaffiliated registered voter with an open mind on who I would like to vote for. I no longer have any affinity to any party any more because I believe both parties are evil. It's just that I find the Republican Party to be the Anti-Christ party much like ISIS is in Iraq and Syria. My question is, if you are a common citizen of this country, how can you buy into their total bullshit. How can they not see it? What is wrong with those that support their party? Why, like me, don't they leave that party and move to the middle like myself? I'll tell you something, in November, I will completely vote the Democrat ticket because  the Republicans truly scare me in every way. You pointed out some very valid points in your post TheTruthQuest123. I know now what I have to do to save this country from keeping the Senate Democrat. That is my goal..

  425. Jeffrey Montague I don't think SS will ever go broke. Way too many people depend on it. Right now the baby boomers have mostly retired, not yet quite peaked out, but almost there. After that they will slowly die off and the payouts will then go down drastically. Remember, today's retired and disabled people are depending on the young to keep them alive and self-sufficient. That's how it works. It will be there for you too because you've already paid into the system and because of that, you will get returns should you ever become disabled or live to see retirement. I must stress, however, that the young don't tend to vote, get involved in politics and that lack of interest might come to bite you in the ass one day. If the republicans have  it their way, they would love to do away with SS and disability, altogether. There is one thing, if passed, would make SS solvent for many more decades and that would be to lift the caps off of SS, Medicare for rich people.  "For 2014, the maximum amount of taxable earnings was $117,000. In 2015, the maximum amount of taxable earnings is $118,500." http://www.ssa.gov/planners/maxtax.htm Government needs to stop the capping on rich people. Eveyone that currently earns less than $117,000 is taxed fully for SS on a progressive scale but it cuts off to zero dollars for those making more than $117,000. This equates to millions of dollars lost in revenues to SS. It's up to your generation to get involved and know what your politicians are up to. That goes for the Democrat party, as well.. Most of them are corporate supporters because they've been bought off..

  458. aphrorae Ah, so now it comes out of your mouth. You are a Republican. That, my friend says it all. Let me tell you about corporations that suck on the government tit like the fossil fuel industries? HUH? Subsidies for farmers? And most of these giveaways are going to RED STATES..Then you have the incurable and insatiable appetite for the military industrial complex. Clinton creates a first-time surplus in federal funds and when W Bush stole the presidency, courtesy of his brother and then governor Jeb Bush and gives that surplus of money that was supposed to pay down the deficit and gives it away in the form of tax cuts that went mainly to the wealthy. And how about half of all corporations paying zero dollars in taxes like GE, Verizon, the list is long and sickening. Republicans are just as liberal as progressives, just in a different and mischievous ways. When Republicans get elected by their rich billionaires, then they have to pay them back in favors such as recently the Keystone Pipeline in which the Koch brothers own all that acreage up in Canada where all that tar sand oil is located. Don't give me your bull about Republican crapola sonny boy. Republicans are for anything but "We the People"...  Getting back to healthcare, the Republicans have absolutely NO CLUE to the problems with healthcare and have absolutely NO SOLUTIONS to the problems. All they do is make you fear some other form of solution. That's how they win elections is through fear tactics and is why we, the USA, have the worst income inequality is because of what they do for rich people and rich people only.

PolakFury FASCISM - a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism. The dictator here being people like the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Citizens United, etc. etc. have bought off the Republican Party completely. Who is now suppressing us? The Republican Party and corporations. Neither entity represents "We the People" hence fascism hence right wing republicans. So the USA is now experiencing some form of corporate control or have extreme corporate influence over everything. They own talk radio and most of the news you see on tv. This is why I take to the internet to listen to the real news. BTW, 'RealNews' channel, you should check them out. Lastly, yeah you and everyone, who call themselves republican and religious is an oxymoron statement in itself. How many times have the Republicans hated on the poor like cutting billions in the SNAP program while freely giving away over half a billion to Defense. Your party is total bullshit. I don't like the Democrats that much either but at least they are the lesser of two evils. Republicans also love corporate welfare giveaways like with the banks, farm subsidies and profiting fossil fuel companies with up to 17 billion tax payer dollars annually going to them. Corrupt maggots all the way. Well the bank bailout subsidies just happened again with the signing of the debt ceiling increase. That's what the republicans stand for. This allows the banks to start gambling again in the derivatives market. The last time the banks lost it hurt many american home owners and the banks went belly up. Who bailed them out? You bet, the American people did at 700 billion. What will it be this time? Republicans ARE the Anti-Christ party. And you don't know anything, sorry to say. Do you even live in America? I doubt it. If you don't, then I don't even know why I'm talking to you at all.

  655. Sam C As I have always said, "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen." - not actually my words but I borrowed them. Look, I get it, you're a republican and apparently more in your family are especially your father and what you're doing here is crying wolf, crying for more money because you just can't get  enough of it. The healthcare industry as it now is and was in the past a proverbial cancer on society. The fucking pharmaceutical industries are charging us up the arse, doctors fees are outrageous, unnecessary procedures are done by doctors. In my local paper an ophthalmologist was caught charging his patients for laser treatments when he was using a flashlight. He lost his license to practice and now teaches people how to be a 'Veterinary Assistant'  at a public college. I've seen lots of malpractice and physician greed. No doubt your father wants it all in a short period of time. Perhaps he should give up being a physician, go back to college and become a wall street banker. He's in the wrong field if he is putting money ahead of patients needs. Lastly, you conveniently did not address my comment on more patients more medical people which is good for the economy. Let the govt have full control over the insurance part so that 100% of each dollar goes towards healthcare and not private insurance companies who decide a patient's fate which is we don't cover that, or you have to pay for this percentage even if it drives you into bankruptcy. That's the reality people like me live in because of people like you who only think of that great american dollar first and patient second. It's in every window of every doctor's office. "Pay before you are seen" So now answer my question about more patients more jobs in the medical industry. Also, those doctors who choose to not work on behalf of insurance companies, i.e. Connecticare, Pro Health Physicians, etc. don't expect to run a private practice because these insurance medical facilities do it cheaper and quicker. Personally, I hate doctors and big corporations. They've both fucked up this country, middle class americans and the way we used to live. You'll get no sympathy from me.

  671. ***** What Progressive Democrats are is LAZY as shit. This election is now proof of what the Supreme right-wing Court did when they said that "Corporations are People" and can contribute any amount of money hence "Citizens United" which should be "Corporations United" because that's what it really is. Our own Supreme Court went against "We the People", our constitution. This election proved one thing and that is we are now an oligarchic regime and that's what the Republicans want more than anything. Why, you ask? Because they've been bought off. Getting back to the flagrant loss by the Democrats, expect hardships to follow and I mean real hardships and poverty to rise. The Republican's play a great game but that's all it is and it will come at a great price for all those that are struggling now. Thank goodness I live in Connecticut, a blue state right in the heart of blue country, the northeast. I had the mind, the solace  and the fortitude to disregard all the shit political ads on television and voted the Democratic ticket all the way baby and every one of them I voted for won. That's how it is done. You vote which is the least civic thing you can do. But no, in this country, roughly 60% of registered voters stayed home. If these people lived in Australia, they would have been fined. Repeated offenders would serve prison time. Finally, this IMO is the most stupid country in the entire world, when it comes to voting and how the process takes place. I feel the whole thing is corrupt right down to its core. That also is the same for our corrupt rich people and corporations for they now own us all. So much for your constitution bud. I will forever be a proud progressive and if Jesus ever existed and were alive today, he would be as well.

  673. I don't like war but sometimes it becomes necessary. For example, look in the middle east with ISIS or ISIL. With the mass beheadings taking place and their spread into Iraq, Syria, and now Libya, something needs to crush this extreme radicalized group who are putting in place the most strictest Sharia law. These people are not a religious group but rather a terrorist group with no heart, no soul, no remorse for what they do and have absolutely no morals whatsoever. This bothers me to no end of what's happening to innocent people and I feel this is justification for boots on the ground otherwise we will see more atrocities in that region. Being anti-war is a good thing regarding unnecessary wars like in Iraq, Vietnam and the Korean war but this ware with ISIS, I feel, is necessary. Add on top of that the beating of the drum of Russia and their pushing the pencil in the Ukraine. The UK is, especially, quite upset with Putin. Things are heating up and we have to be cognitive of what's going on here. I hate war but sometimes we have to get involved and I think most Americans think the same thing. Lastly, an unwarranted war that W Bush pushed us into totally destabilized that region and eventually allowed ISIS in infiltrate that country and make things worse. I believe history has already been written about W Bush and it isn't good at all. To this day, I still believed he went to war there because of his daddy. This should be a lesson for everyone but not really. This country is way too divided to agree or disagree on this war. It baffles me, to no end, why we the people cannot get on the same obvious page.
