Bernie was always a bit of the sheepdog. However, His (3rd - including common law) wife, Jane, is a grifter. Jane ripped of Burlington College, one scam was taking loans they could not pay back, spending the money on her bonus, salary, and things like hiring her own daughter to teach pottery at 110,000 per annum, etc. FBI was investigating her, until they were not. Then VP Biden really becomes Bernie's best friend. We can all add 2 and 2, right. It's not even a secret.
Jane stuck so close to Bernie during this election to make sure he didn't forget, every time he started to speak too much truth to power, she'd give him a wedgie.

Don’t know much about Tom Conway at USW, but that he was hand picked by Leo Gerard, a fellow Canadian. Leo never held slag rake, or worked in any capacity on the shop floor of steel mill. He was hired before he completed his university degree as site representative of the USW, thanks in no small part to his father. USW and AFL-CIO are staffed pretty much from top to bottom with professional managers, and just like professional managers of plc corporations run them not for the benefit of external investors, but for a circle of cronies from the business schools, Leo and men like him mostly ran the unions to advance their own interests. You think political elections in the USA are a two party single oligarchy scam? Try getting nominated as a real candidate, and not window dressing, at a union election.
I almost forgot to mention that he was part of the Obama team charged with selling TPP, for which he was well rewarded. He is still part of Obama’s social circle. You should see the lake he owns, or rather the trusts that shield him own. Would not be surprised to learn Tom was one of the guys used by Leo on TPP. When the strike ends those workers are going to find a been sold out by their management yet again. And management that they have a harder time replacing than America does of getting outside the two-party single oligarchy.

@celestemi4341 Nope, she had a place in Maine from her parents, which was also owned by her brother, which she got 150,000 for her share. She had to come up with the 400,000 balance.
The real sleaze was the business with the schools she ran, she gave her own daughter a job for 150,000 per annum to teach pottery, no wonder the schools went broke. Joe Biden, VP at the time, helped convince Justice Dept to not follow up on investigations, and got his friends in the Republican Party to sit on the Republican Vice Mayor of Burlington, who requested the investigation after local Catholic Church lost 1.5 million from underwriting land deals by the college. It's a club, and you're not in it.

To bad CNN wasn't around to join the Yellow Press for the Spanish War.
"The Spanish war has finished us reformers. The blare of the bugle drowns the voice of the reformer. Who gets the benefit of the war? The bond seekers, the capitalists, the railroads. National bankers will profit by this war. The new bonds give them the basis for new banks, and their power is prolonged. The privileged classes all profit by this war. It takes the attention of the people off economic issues and perpetuates the unjust economic system they have put upon us. Politicians profit by the war. It buries issues they dare not meet.
"What do the people get out of this war? The fighting and the taxes. What is the United States doing in this war with Spain in the first place? True, Spain is oppressing Cuba, but so is England oppressing Ireland, Egypt and India. [This is 1898.] France is oppressing Siam and Madagascar, Turkey is oppressing Armenia. Should we then take up arms against the oppressors of the world? We would more likely end up by becoming oppressors ourselves.
"The Spaniards and Cubans were bushwhacking one another and killing from three to five men at a battle. We have gone down there and killed more people in three months than they would have killed in 13 years. If they were starving before, who feeds them now? What are we going to get out of this war as a nation? Endless trouble, complications and expenses. Republics can't go into the conquering business and remain republics. Militarism leads to military domination, military despotism. Imperialism smoothes the way for the emperor."

How are we going to get an "effective" 3rd party now? We know the Republican Party represents one faction of Corporate America, and the DNC represents the other half of Corporate America. They work together to produce labor, labor subsidized by either being forced prison labor or less than subsistence paid labor receiving Food Stamps, etc, so they can stay (barely) alive. This is the product they produce for their real constituents (WalMart, Amazon, etc.) Purging the poor from voter rolls is exactly what both they and their real constituents want done. It is one more way of keeping them from power, from voting in primaries to support real progressives from replacing corporate hacks like Stacy Adams. The real benefit of voter suppression is it kills 3rd parties.
In Georgia, the DNC outsources this suppression business to the Republicans, hence their silence and the silence of the media owned by their corporate constituents. In places like NY the DNC has party hacks do this work in house, and the Republicans and media in those states keep quiet because it's also in the interest of their corporate clients as well. Between that and keeping the poor working so hard they don't have time to stop and think, it's a long slog for any 3rd party.

Jane Sanders has been grafting from the public trough since she met and then married Bernie Sanders, and having his balls in the vice, Bernie went along with it. Otherwise, he's just a rather lazy hippy who isn't a good listener, and is happy to let the pushy ones around him run the show, even if they are grifters.
Very first grift starts with her first job, ala her own Wikipedia page. Sanders worked in the Juvenile Division of the Burlington Police Department, and then as a community organizer with the King Street Area Youth Center, and as a volunteer for AmeriCorps VISTA.[1]
From 1981 to 1991, Sanders served as founding Director of the Mayor's Youth Office and Department Head in the City of Burlington. She was also active in K-12 education, elected as a School Board Commissioner, and was a founding member of the Women's Council & the Film Commission. In 1991, her husband, Bernie Sanders, was elected to the U.S. Congress. From 1991 to 1995, she worked in his office on a volunteer basis.[15]
In 1996, Sanders was appointed as Provost and Interim President of her alma mater, Goddard College, to help the college through a difficult period. The Board, faculty, staff, students and Sanders worked together to improve the accreditation, finances and governance of the institution.[15]
From 2004 through 2011, Sanders was President of Burlington College, a small liberal arts college founded in 1972 for non-traditional students. It closed due to financial problems in 2016.[16]
As senior partner in the Burlington-based consulting firm, Leadership Strategies, O'Meara worked as a political and educational consultant for federal, state, and local political campaigns.[17]
Sanders was instrumental in founding The Sanders Institute, a progressive think tank which launched in June 2017, and is one of its 11 original fellows. Like the other fellows, she does not receive payment for her work, although she does receive compensation for travel expenses.[3]
In 2018, she became a member of the Advisory Panel of the Democracy in Europe Movement 2025.[18]
I'm sure she has money parked off shore too.

Yep, it never worked, not from the beginning.
On the morning of May 29, 1787, in the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia, Edmund Randolph, governor of Virginia, opened the meeting that would become known as the Constitutional Convention by identifying the underlying cause of various problems that the delegates of thirteen states had assembled to solve. “Our chief danger,” Randolph declared, “arises from the democratic parts of our constitutions.” None of the separate states’ constitutions, he said, had established “sufficient checks against the democracy.”

@duncanwilson2926 @Duncan Wilson They don't work when they are discovered, if, and this is a big if, the political figure (judge in this case) is afraid they will be held out to rot on the gallows if there is any backlash.
This judge, Vanessa Baraitser, isn't the worst, that title goes to her boss, the supervising judge Emma Arbuthnot (who was the original trial judge, but turned the case over to Baraister when a conflict of interest was discovered. However she refused to give up her supervisory role, so she's still Baraister's boss and can make her life hell). That conflict was her husband (James Norwich Arbuthnot) taking US Government money, a lot of it, to help secure a conviction against Julian Assange. The uncovering of this "fact" is what has caused her to punt to Baraister, she does not want to face her own trial over corruption/failure to report conflicts of interest. Now, however Baraister is nervous as her picture has recently been made public. So she too punted. Independent press should keep hounding both judges, so that the system learns that this kind of behavior has a cost, just like the lesson the system is trying to force on the press via Assange. I hope both judges do jail time, but UK is so corrupt it isn't going to happen without a hell of a lot of pressure.

That's why they picked British upper class women, usually they are fridged. The better tactic is to do research on their family.

The one great weakness of a honest journalist, vs. a pundit, politician, or general. Journalist focus on reporting "news", new facts. They forget to keep repeating the old facts, and they tend to treat all facts as equal. A good politician, or pundit like Jimmy, will keep hammering at the weak points, and refuses to be played into moving on to less controversial points. Here this guy keeps forgetting to hammer on about how corrupt the judge is, that her boss, and the original trial judge (who turned the case over to her) had a husband taking US Government money, a lot of it, to help secure a conviction against Julian Assange. The uncovering of this "fact" is what has caused her to punt, she does not want to face her own trial over corruption/failure to report conflicts of interest.

@duncanwilson2926 They don't work when they are discovered, if, and this is a big if, the political figure (judge in this case) is afraid they will be held out to rot on the gallows if there is any backlash.
