Next exploding rocket story, they fixed the space shuttle booster rockets by adding a 3rd o-ring which did nothing, it was the putty containing the gases. Poor Richard Feynman was feed a crap story about the O-rings being too cold by a general who's flown military jets full of o-rings in the upper atmosphere. A newbie who can read a Parker Hanafin o-ring handbook could have figured out what was done wrong with the o-ring placement in 2 hours, anyone familiar with o-ring design should have spotted the mistake immediately. What I can't quite come to understand is how Morton Thicol could have made such an idiotic mistake. That it was so idiotic certainly explains NASA's need to cover it up, as they should have caught it.
