Rust is exactly just as fast as C according to the most up-to-date results: energy-efficiency-languages/updated-functional-results-2020 Everything the guy in the video said about Rust is outdated by the same study.

7:24 - "why aren't people using C more often, man?" Have you tried using C? The language makes it clear it won't help you and it does not want you using it.

The woke and activistic live in your country, yet you're not moving abroad. So there is no principle in your mind about leaving a place because of its woek and activistic people.

Hey Bryan, using a very sharp razor is faster for shaving your beard than using an electric shaver. So I assume you only use very sharp razors to shave, right? Also exacto knives are much faster than scissors. So I assume you only ever use exacto knives and never scissors to cut anything, right? Also tossing something on the ground is the quickest way to open it. So I assume everything you want to open, you throw it forcefully into the ground, right?

@michaelk.jensen1611 C can barely do Strings, and Hashtables are also a pain. The whole language is painful and unnecessarily so.

@dedstrock I appreciate that, thank you for explaining.

Rust is exactly as fast as C - google this: energy-efficiency-languages/updated-functional-results-2020 Scroll down and you will see Rust is 1.00 for Energy, Time and Memory. The guy in this video is just not up-to-date with the latest updates from this study.

@anon_y_mousse It is better than C++ for memory safety - the compiler catches bugs that most people never do. It has a smarter compiler so you can use your cognition within the problem domain, instead of wasting brain cells figuring out what the compiler already knows better than you. C++ people are upset they're not the best in town anymore.

@dedstrock "the update uses Rust as the unit of comparisson to the rest of languages whose compilers were updated, it doesn't mean C is equal to Rust in terms of speed. " Correct. "Nonetheless, Rust seems to have become like 5 percent slower and uses like 2% more energy but occupies at least 30% less memory now." How were you able to figure that out?

Rust is not "slower" and it does not "use more electricity" than C. If you search for the energy-efficiency-languages/updated-functional-results-2020 , you will see that Rust is EXACTLY 1.00 in Energy, Time, and Memory (MB), just like C. Hence Rust is NOT "slower and uses more electricity than C".
