This point is not made often enough but it was well known in ancient times that the Iberian Celts and the Celtiberians were much tougher than the Gauls, see Diodorus Siculus V.33.1 and Strabo Geographia, IV.4.2, both making the exact same point that the Romans had a much harder time against Celts in Iberia than in Gaul. Both authors also said that Celts in Gauls only existed in southern Gaul in Gallia Narbonensis; and that everyone else were "Galates".

@hoi-polloi1863 The Gauls according to Dr. Reich were two ethnic groups, Briton-like in northern France and Iberian-like in southern France. The northern ones the Greeks called Galates, the southern ones they called Keltoi. Both groups went on to discover and colonize the new world in pioneering ways. None of them have "virtually disappeared as a cultural entity". Iberians and southern French (the Celts) to this day are coethnic (same exact autosomal genetics) and see themselves as part of the same cultural entity (which they recognize modernly as Occitan as the last culture that influenced from Western Iberia to Eastern France and Switzerland with the troubadours).

If you look at the Wikipedia article on Genetic_history_of_Europe and search that article for the word "substructure" without quotes, you will find a table of genetic proximity between countries and regions. In that table you will find that Switzerland (all the Swiss people averaged out) are closer to Spaniards than they are to Southern Germans and to Austrians and to Northern Italians all of whom are their neighbors and some of whom like the Southern Germans and the Austrians you would think are much more like the Swiss than Iberians, but you'd be objectively wrong. Technically what is happening here is precisely what you have wisely detected: From Portugal to Swabia and Bavaria there is a Gallo-Roman genetic continuum that to this day exists and shows up as genetic proximity in fixation indices and measurements of genetic SNP substructure. When you say as a Badner you're not German, you are simply identifying this genetic reality that you are part of this Gallo-Roman continuum. It does not mean you are genetically basically a Portuguese or Spanish person - you still have, for example, 15% more Yamnaya than they do - but it does mean that the Portuguese and Spanish are closer to you genetically due to historically sharing descendants in a way that you did not do as much with the Germanic peoples native of northern Germany and Scandinavia.

In ancient times, people in France called themselves Galli, except in southern France and in western Iberia where they called themselves Celti. This is what we know from epigraphic evidence. This has already been refuted in academia by the President of the International congress for Celtic Studies which regulates all Celtic Studies academic departments, Dr. Patrick Sims-Williams, with the publication of his paper "An alternative to Celtic from the East and Celtic from the West". So you're saying things that are already outdated in academia or that were never historically official.

There were only Nordics in the area around Britain (northern France and Denmark) hence why the British are purely a Germanic people without any admixture from Celtic people. The only people who called themselves Celts in ancient times were western Iberians and southern French. George Buchanan in 1582 named the Gaelic languages "Celtic languages" because he thought they originated with the Celtici of Spain. So even the name "Celtic languages" recognizes the Celtic people are in Iberia. Everyone else is just Celtic-speaker, not a Celtic people.

Hallstatt could have been Germanic, Italic or Pannonian, but it was certainly not Celtic-speaking, as the evidence for Celtic languages in Central Europe is much more recent than the evidence for Celtic languages in Iberia and even anywhere else west of Hallstatt. Dr. Patrick Sims-Williams is the current president of the International congress for Celtic Studies which regulates all Celtic Studies academic departments.
