@colinchampollion4420 The reason you think Iberians are Mediterranean is that Iberians actually plot with southeastern-central French, hence they are close to the northwestern Italians (especially Aostans) but there is no genetic continuum with Italians; the Iberian genetic continuum comes from France, west and north of the Alps. So, no Mediterranean. Refer to Figure 1 of the paper "Genomic signals of migration and continuity in Britain before the Anglo-Saxons" and pick up your jaw from the floor when you find out that Iberians are "northwestern Europeans" according to the objective genetic data - albeit the southernmost of that group. The first and northernmost Mediterranean people are Sardinians, then Northern Italians. It's okay, I also did not know this until recently. But every study groups the Iberians with the French and the Swiss, and plot them as if they were French people from Lyon. Basques are the only people that actually genetically plot in the Atlantic, which makes them the westernmost people in Europe, but Iberians are less than 40% Basque; most of Iberian EEF comes from Germany, hitchhiking with the Yamnaya component also from there. Look at the paper and read how Figure 1 was created. They allowed the data to sort itself out.

The Portuguese are not Mediterranean, the Mediterranean people are the Romans, the Greeks, Turkey and some Balkans, all people who civilized themselves. Rule of thumb: if you had to be civilized by the Romans, you are not Mediterranean. Check out Fst distances for the Portuguese and the Spanish. They are closer to French, Swiss, Belgian, German, and English than they are to even Northern Italians (who are Alpines Gauls and not Mediterraneans), let alone to Romans and Southern Italians who are indeed Mediterranean. No, the Portuguese were truly barbarians while Rome and Greece were flourishing with several different schools of philosophy. Stop granting all the glory of the Mediterranean people so readily to western barbarians, please. The Portuguese are still the same Celts as they were when they had to be civilized by Rome starting in 200 BC. 17 Octobre 2018 David Reich - Bell Beaker genetic video here on youtube ( JVPxAGc6WX4 ) will tell you that even in the Bronze Age the Bell Beakers in western Europe were already autosomaly either English or Iberian, with no hint of any Italian whatsoever. Since the Bronze Age, through the Iron Age and up to modern day era, the Portuguese remain those same Bell Beakers who became Celts. Read Olalde et al. (2019) and you will see the largest ever genetic study on Iberians concluded they are 60% Germany Bell Beaker from 2,500 BC and 40% pre-Basque. The Basque genetic component is the westernmost component in all of Europe - not the southernmost, which would be Sicilian, but the westernmost - and it is native to the Atlantic coast of southwestern France - not the Mediterranean coast. Hence there are no genetic components in the make-up of the Portuguese (nor of the Spanish) which could make them Mediterranean. This is why the Portuguese did not civilize themselves. They are not Mediterranean. They are just Central Europeans mixed with the westernmost Atlantic Europeans.

@colinchampollion4420 "Atlantid" is a phenotype term and even there it is usually a variation of Nordic Keltic. You're thinking of Atlanto-Med but even then that is about phenotype and not genotype. Genotypically and genetically the Iberians are just southern French and even more specifically, southeastern-central French, just west of Switzerland. That is exactly where they plot in most genetic algorithms.
