@Waterdreamwell Because Vietnam was the first war that was basically broadcast live on television. The Americans at home could actually see what was going on there. They couldnt see that in Korea or other wars before, that only had highly censored army videos coming out of there, and newspaper articles. Of course after a few decades they got desensitized, so the footage coming from Iraq or Afghanistan in the 21st century didnt hit as hard. Even when there is footage of guys with miniguns in helicopters mowing down innocent people by the dozens.

@jloki9259 There have been incidents where that did happen. Some of the soldiers responsible were eventually investigated and convicted. But it still happened. July 2007 Baghdad Airstrike. It's on Wikipedia. Look it up. Also, are we calling Iraq a mission now? Why not call it a special military operation while you're at it. The term you are looking for is unsanctioned aggressive war. No casus belli.
