I think its a bit ridiculous to spend so much time and political will discussing apologies for events in the past when we could be doing something about modern slavery which is happening to millions of people in many countries right now. It is very hypocritical. Oh look at me Im so humble apologizing for slavery while I wear clothes made by childrens hands in a sweatshop in Bangladesh. Instead of this Mark Rutte should have gone to the EU parliament and made a case for stricter laws governing corporations supply chains abroad so they can be held accountable for the human rights violations they profit from. But you will never hear him talk about that because those corporations fund his parties campaign budgets.

  3. A lot of English words related to shipbuilding and types of ships are also borrowed from Dutch. Mast, kiel, and gangplank, for example. Schooner and yacht. You could pobably go on for a while like that.

  4. I've only ever heard "Double Dutch" as referring to "going Dutch" but instead of splitting the bill evenly, everyone only pays for their own consumption. Which is quite common in the Netherlands if you go out with friends or colleagues. Dont want to end paying up for someone's 3 course meal when you only ordered a margerita pizza!
