its the most expensive country in the world to live in that is not a microstate or the USA. wouldnt recommend moving here before you get your masters degree. universities here are also some of the most expensive in europe, most other countries will pay you to study there, here it costs a lot of money, if youre an eu resident the tuition is about 2000 a year, non eu resident, 20.000 a year. you will be paying 500 euro in rent for a one room apartment. youd be better off studying in literally any other country in europe.

@speedysquibbles its basically impossible to get one. there are very few of them, a couple hundred or maybe 1000 a year in total for the entire country, and there are hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world who want to study here. unless you have perfect grades and did a ton of extracurricular work you wont make the cut. you will be competing against many thousands of indian and chinese students who have been working 14 hours a day their entire life to get that scholarship. the best way to make it in is to graduate, start applying for jobs here at tech companies and then have them apply for a work visa for you. then if you spend a coule years here working and paying taxes, you might be able to get permanent residence. we have some of the strictest immigration policies on the planet.

@FidgetSpinoza what is EE? i live in the netherlands. i dont watch youtube videos to know how our economy works. i read books and scientific papers about it and look up statistics published by the government. everything i wrote in my previous comment is well researched, and most of it is probably available in english if you want to bother looking it up.

@Pleunpleun amsterdam is more expensive than both those cities, the only cities in europe that are similar are london and paris. and the rest of the netherlands is nearly as bad. there are no cheap areas here. in other european countries its possible to find cheaper housing in the countriside. here you wont find anything under 300.000 euro.

@fortierma64 im not saying the infrastructure will be better, but there will be more dutch people outside of french canada. we dont get along with the french. as for moving to holland, i would advise against it, i have to live here and its really not that great. its very expensive and there are too many people. theres a reason a lot of people migrated to canada in the first place, you know.

@andy6576 dude what are you smoking, you cant even buy a 2 room flat for 160.000 anywhere in the country.

its literally the most economically unequal country in the world if you look at wealth distribution. income inequality is low because income is heavily taxed and the rentier class makes all their money from owning capital that the working class have to pay to use.

migrate to a different area with a higher population of dutch people. i have a lot of family in canada, but they dont live in the french areas.

@user-vz1gb5jy3b not if you account for costs of private health insurance and lots of other services that are provided here for free. if i moved to the US i would need to make at least 200.000 dollars a year to have a similar quality of life compared to what i have here on about a quarter of that income. and then we havent even talked about the cost of education for you kids or the violent crime rate which is 3x higher than in europe. the USA is the worst place to live on the fucking planet. id rather move to sierra leone than move to the US.

@Rednax-Code yes, you will be able to fit a bunk bed with a desk underneath and a closet for your clothes if youre lucky.

@Miles26545 yeah the us is one of the few countries on earth that has worse upward economic mobility

@pollstreak4095 I could buy a house in a rural area in scandinavia. You cant find anything in the netherlands for less than 400K euro. Switzerland has higher wages and lower tax rates than NL, similar to australia or the USA which are also expensive countries to live in.
1
@pollstreak4095 do you have any arguments why its untrue?

I usually own 3 bikes, use one to commute from my home to the nearest public transport hub, another one to commute from the hub near my work to the office, and a third one that i use occasionally when i visit my parents. its much cheaper than owning a car and you can get to most places in a similar amount of time, if not faster because you wont get stuck in traffic jams.
