@residentelect well we are now at the point that western society has degenerated so far that i wouldnt even want to serve my country. everything i could do would be used to do evil anyway. joining the military would mean getting sent to the middle east to shoot goat herders. we dont build bridges anymore. other government work is useless because the people at the top are getting their campaigns funded on the condition that they dont solve any problems and maintain the status quo so their capitalist overlords can continue extracting billions in profit so they can buy their 101st megayacht this year.
the private sector is terrible too, the only businesses that are making money these days are exploiting poor people here and in third world countries.
pyramid schemes, cryptocurrencies, etc, the entire financial sector has become a a giant parasite that sucks all the profit out of everything else. every company is an empty shell full of robots who dont have any creativity.
add to that climate change, unsustainable exploitation of nature, exponentially rising costs of living, stagnant wages, sky high divorce and suicide rates, etc etc.
and you know the best part about it is that this all has happened so many times before, from meso america to rome to ancient china. humanity is doomed to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over. technology isnt going to change that, it just accelerates the process.
im just gonna sit here and watch it all burn.

We dont all have to work. With labour productivity increasing like 300% over the past couple decades due to (computer) automation, about 25% of the people currently employed would need to work fulltime to keep a society running.
The other 75% has useless administrative jobs, support functions, middle management positions, etc etc, that could be eliminated quite easily, or, consists of people who only do actual work for maybe 2 hours a day on average and spend the other 6 hours getting coffee, scheduling and going to unnecessary overlong meetings where half the people dont even have anything to contribute, gossipping with colleagues, looking at shoes on amazon and scrolling through social media and news websites.
I would dare to say that we would actually get more work done if we paid these people to stay out of the way. And maybe with all their free time, they would voluntarily go do something useful for society.
That being said, I do agree Disney needs to reconsider who their target audience is. Their current focus group seems to consist solely of woke female yuppies, and those dont typically spend much on tv or movies, they have social media for their entertainment. At best theyll watch reality tv shows.

@MrPGC137 it could be nihilism, if drinker has accepted that sci fi and fantasy tv shows are just going to be mainstream sellout trash from now on. The old star trek that had interesting ideas and principles, is dead and buried. All that can happen from now until the copyright runs out, more than a century from now, is more cashgrabs leaning heavily on nostalgia. the same goes for star wars, theyll just keep getting JJ Abrams to throw more crap at walls until he drops dead. after the huge financial success of GoT, even with how badly it ended, there will be studios lining up to crap out more of the same. witcher show is absolute garbage, they're already shooting a wheel of time tv show thats going to be trash as well, and as long as they'll keep making money selling this crap to people just because its new, which they will for at least 20 years, there's no incentive to make anything actually good. good content costs more to produce, it would just lower their profit margin. from that point of view, there is no hope, and nothing you can say or do can change anything. thats quite a nihilistic perspective.
