Spoiler alert. People arent going to theaters anymore. Well, maybe some extremely blue-pilled people with kids and lots of money still pay 150 bucks to see a Disney movie with the family once every couple months when they have some free time, but overall, no. Theater attendance is way down, not just for Disney movies. Its too expensive and the movies are too often bad. Its not even about being able to stream it at home on your big screen tv, the theater experience is just not worth it.

I'd watch it if she was hot and it was well made. I watched Stardust many times, its basically a live action Disney fairy tale, very charming and well, you might argue Claire Danes isnt the prettiest actress in Hollywood but she had Zegler beat by a mile.

@MaryRohwer that's great, you still have disposable income. Most people don't

@SeraphsWitness yeah not really though. Let me look it up. It made 220 million domestic and 400 international. That movie cost over 200 million to make. Add in the marketing costs and then the 50% take for the theaters and it lost Disney money. These days if a big movie doesn't make a billion dollars at the box office then it's probably losing money because these film studios can't curb their spending.

@SeraphsWitness No. Let me break it down again. The movie made 600 million. 50% of that goes to the theaters, not to the studio. So the studio gets 300. They spent 200 on making the movie and Disney usually spends 100-200 million on marketing per movie. At best, before taxes, this movie barely broke even. That's without considering taxes. After tax it's surely a loss. They need to pay the Chinese govt to be allowed to show the movie, they have to pay taxes in Europe on their profit here, basically anywhere except the US, even if the movie doesn't make money, they pay taxes because their subsidiaries abroad did make money. And those subsidiaries also have employees and distribution costs. And then there's the copyright lawyers. There is no way this movie made money.

@MaryRohwer That's great. I try to be happy for people like you, but I will never be able to afford a house, a wife, or children, so it's difficult.
