It does have something to do with crime. I wasnt raised to be anti-import. Living in a city with 20% north african import and experiencing their crime and violence first hand, made me anti-import.

@Azmodael Statistically, the uneducated labor in the Netherlands is a minority. There are more people doing specialized work, in the service industry, in offices, in construction, in teaching, etc, than uneducated manual laborers. We automated most of those jobs in the 90s. Its 2024 now. If you want to work in a pharmacy, or drugstore, selling shampoo and cold medicine, you need an education. Most of the people we let in from north africa and the middle east do not have and will not get that level of education. They will be welfare recipients, work for the municipal cleaning and gardening service, or work other minimum wage jobs in logistics hubs and supermarkets and the like. People who make minimum wage are net tax recipients. Importing a minimum wage worker, costs us money. If we stopped importing unskilled workers, the wages for that kind of work would go up and more native people could make a living doing it. But that would cost the rich shareholders of multinational businesses money and they dont want that. They want us to be poor.

Oh no you still cant write about it here. Just a few years ago a tenured professor at the university of amsterdam was blacklisted and barred entry to the uni (they couldnt fire him because he had tenure, but oh they tried) because he wrote a report that calculated importing people from certain regions of the world was a massive drain on the government coffers and the economy in general, to the tune of half a million euro per person from those areas over their lifetime. Adding up to about ten or twenty billion euros per year in the past 20 years and growing. This report was quickly buried after a few days of being discussed in the media and never brought up again.

Just legalize it, and tax it to fund the anti-addiction policies. No more criminal gangs and drug use will decrease. Netherlands has had semi-legal fun grass for a long time and has some of the lowest consumption per capita in the world. Only a small minority of natives actually smoke grass.

@canelo1728 Literally everything in the original comment here is true and has been scientifically researched with massive datasets. Its not our fault you dont read the news or any government or scientific publications. Look up the report "Grenzeloze Verzorgingsstaat" by Jan van de Beek of the Universiteit of Amsterdam. @Daughterofminerva importing a hundred thousand people a year when you already have a housing crisis is a bad idea. We can't build houses fast enough for all those newcomers, so the native population will never have access to housing as long as the current policy is in place. You can't just talk about housing without looking at the population growth statistics. Without importing all those people, the population would shrink and we would have enough houses for everyone without building anything.

@hishamalaker491 Indonesia was a Dutch colony and when our colonies were given independence, anyone had the right to move to the Netherlands. Most people who moved here from Indonesia and Suriname are decent working tax paying citizens and are integrated well into our culture. They also earned the right to live here because of the things we did in their homeland. Geert Wilders is culturally a completely integrated Dutch man. People who come here from other places, be it eastern europe or china, also generally work and dont cause much trouble. Its specifically the imports from north africa and middle east that are the problem. They dont work and commit most of the crime.

Drug use in NL is quite low. Both in presciption medication, legalized drugs like marijuana, and illegal hard drugs. The problem is the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerpen are the number one and two gateways for drugs into Europe, so gangs fight over the territory.

@Azmodael without mass immigration the wages would naturally go up, and that is not a bad thing. In the Netherlands, even with a lot of government subsidies, minimum wage is not enough to afford the cost of living. Sure you can make more money than in other places but everything is also extremely expensive. Importing foreigners to work for minimum wage deprives native people of better wages. This only benefits the shareholders of corporations and people in high skilled labour who can get their Amazon packages delivered marginally cheaper. It goes against the principles of social democracy. Everyone deserves a living wage.

I would love to vote for a "left" party in the Netherlands, but the parties that are presenting themselves as leftish such as D66, PVDA, Groenlinks, Volt, are just corporate parties in disguise. And the Socialist Party has always been inept and unable to govern. So yeah. Go PVV.

@Daughterofminerva it doesn't help though if your government gives the new available affordable rentals to the import people for free instead of giving them to their own people. Which is what the Dutch government has bee doing for the past twenty years. Priority for asylum seekers in allotting social housing.

@Daughterofminerva no, the Dutch government gives asylum applicants priority over native people for social housing. Specifically people who are not from here, don't have a job and don't pay taxes, get faster access to social housing that is subsidized by my tax money while I cannot find a place to rent.

@Daughterofminerva the landlords aren't a big amount of voters. The reason they can do what they do is local municipal governments, not national elections. Many towns have put restrictions on buying houses for investment and some completely banned Airbnb. It doesn't make much of a difference. Outside Amsterdam tourism isn't a big factor, but having to house thousands of immigrants per year is. Italy isn't the same country as the Netherlands. If for you tourism is a problem and immigration isn't, then don't vote for Meloni. Here it is a big problem so people voted for Wilders.
