The thing is, that not everyone considers giving a kid a slap on the wrist, or a solid spank, abuse. My dad kicked my ass a very few times when I was a kid and I more than deserved that. Making it completely illegal to physically discipline an unruly child is just dumb. What are you going to do then, if they refuse to put on their shoes, go to school, brush their teeth, or go to bed? Just let them do whatever they want?

The thing is not everyone considers an occasional spanking as abuse. A lot of people consider that good parenting. If you dont think so you would not have been able to raise my brother or me into functional adults. But if your kids never do anything that warrants physical discipline, good for you.

@familyberente1407 I have in fact turned out fine though

Orange man wasnt removed from office. He completed his term.

Thats good, you wouldnt have been able to raise my brother and he would have ended up in foster care or dead on the street because you refuse to take your responsibility as a parent and enforce discipline in the house. I sincerely hope your children will all be little angels so that you wont have to deal with your failure to be an adult and control your house.
3
@JukkaVaan what would you do if your kid pulls a knife on you. one of the big sharp ones from the knife block.
2
@amazinggrapes3045 I'm pretty sure physically disciplining unruly adults is illegal. Unfortunately.

Greatest country in the world for a few decades because the entirety of Europe was in ruins after 2 world wars. Your run was short.

@Lokidude-m6h now, for the trifecta. what if the homeless shelters are full, the church is underfunded, and the soup kitchens are empty, and you couldnt even afford a place to live if you had a full time job. would you say, welp guess i die now. or would you be able to justify to yourself that maybe stealing some food so you dont starve or sleep in a heated room so you dont freeze to death is reasonable.
2
@jennym3883 Uh, yeah, I did consider that. Our parents divorced when we were little and my brother acted that out with violence. He grabbed big knives from the kitchen and tried to stab me about every other week. So when we were at my dad's house, he had to take pretty drastic measures sometimes. It was up to him because my mom at the time was too busy being depressed to raise either of us. You cant just make blanket statements like physically disciplining a kid is always bad, if the alternative is people getting seriously hurt, or your already broken family being broken up more by the government.
2
@HXSKlmfao you try dealing with a kid who tries to murder people and then tell me it’s always bad to hit a child

This is not fascism. Just wait until the real fascism comes knocking. Plenty of Americans from both parties will be in favor of it.
1
If you want to end presidential immunity, how about trying George Bush and Barack Obama for the war crimes they committed in the middle east? No? Thought so. But boo the orange man because you dont like the crimes he committed.
1
@realdragon do you know why american soldiers during ww2 didnt fasten the straps on their helmets as they were told to do?
1
@Post_Stall_Maneuver riiiight because no one in youtube comments ever commited a crime. and got away with it. or not. i'll never tell. your comment is braindead either way.
1
not all physical discipline is automatically abuse. what would you do if you have a kid who simply refuses to go to school? let them stay home all day? no, you pick them up and put them in the car while theyre crying and fighting to get out. according to you that is abuse.
1
im a millenial and im in favor of it. most kids from my generation and yours are insufferable brats because their mother never whooped their ass. if you dont think so, youre probably one of the brats.

@whydoineedanameiwillneverp7790 What if a child keeps intentionally breaking stuff around the house, is physically violent towards his parents, refuses to sit down for dinner, put on his shoes to go to school, brush his teeth, etc, until you get to the point where words clearly dont work and you have to physically punish them to get them to comply. This is not an uncommon thing, it doesnt just happen with children with behavioural problems, its perfectly normal for young children to do stuff like that and not listen to words unless you grab them by the wrist and make them comply. The problem with making it illegal to discipline your kids is that it removes not just a tool a parent has to raise a kid, but also removes the threat of that tool which is in 99% of cases enough to enfore compliance. My dad only ever had to kick my ass twice in my life but I was scared of it every time I did something wrong. These days kids in my country will threaten to call social services and report their parents if they dont get what they want.
1
@sarcasticsuperjerk18 Okay, now what if one of your kids grabs a big knife from the kitchen block and tries to stab another one of your kids, is violence an option then? Because thats the kind of thing I grew up with and I am glad my dad considered violence an option in some cases because I might be dead otherwise. Oh and i dont know about you, but where I live, if you send your kid to school without shoes, the school eill contact social services and you are in deep shit.

I wish spanking was still legal in my country.
1
@Lokidude-m6h If your dog tried to bite someone, would you refuse to physically discipline it? Little kids are about as smart as a dog. They require physical feedback to condition their behaviour.
1
@Lokidude-m6h And stealing is perfectly justified if for example you are actually starving, or you have no other option for survival due to other circumstances. If you are homeless out on the street in a cold winter, and you have 2 options; freeze to death or break into a house, what would you do?
1
@Lokidude-m6h okay so what would you do if your child doesnt want to get dressed, put on their shoes, and go to school. and the child physically tries to fight you every step of the way.
1
@Lokidude-m6h are you seriously arguing that kids who misbehave need to be put on medication? please dont have children.
1
@Lokidude-m6h hey im not saying it should be a regular thing. im saying taking it away from parents as a last resort is bad. my dad only kicked my ass twice in eighteen years. and that was enough.
1
@Lokidude-m6h im sure that worked great in the eighties but its not reality right now
1
Yeah what politicians do in other countries is wait until their term ends and then collect their payment from the corporations they represented by getting a phony job as a lobbyist or director.
1
in that case you should probably not be taking that medication
1
It also leads to extremely socially inept adults who behave terribly and treat other people like shit because their mother never put the fear of god in them. Since spanking kids was outlawed the amount of children and young adults in my country with behavioural problems increased exponentially.
1
It always has been
1
Incorrect. It can also teach them that behaving like a little shit has consequences
1
@Mark73 it sure taught my brother not to try to pull kitchen knives on me when i had the tv remote
1
@Mark73 no he was 5 years younger than me and yes it did teach him not to pull knives on people

America for all its history since independence has tried to emulate Rome. In Rome, the law was what the senate said. And now youre surprised? I dont know what you thought was going on, but that professor was right.
