  4. I used to subscribe to that theory. Nowadays , for me , it’s web and tides. Ups and downs. If you study American history , you start seeing the patterns. Right now America is on a downslope. It might meet its doom, buy it is hard to be precise.

  6. That is a bit lost lately. It used to be yiu saw these values manifested in places. A small community town hall meeting that is what instilled sense of fairness, community , exercising democracy. That is going by the wayside. As recent as a couple years ago there was this bookeeper serving several small adjoining Midwest communities who got caught syphoning money away. Too much consumerism , self indulgence , and instant gratification are eating away of what used to be core values of the average American. Also, the notion of common good and private is becoming the private supersedes the common. A good example …waterfront properties by the sea. Onto the beach strip. Those tracks of land are not supposed to be deeded. Yet, there are people who call them private property, with beach rights. Pay inequity from the C Suite to the floor. Small stuff like that.

  8. What this retired officer is saying is on point. Second generation borne in America from migrant parents are the most loyal citizens they can recruit. It’s very noticeable on gateway cities and neighborhoods across the US. Fresh out of the boat migrants have their allegiances mixed from their mother countries. Nothing wrong with that. The only motivation there is are three square meals a day, medical, uniforms , and some training. What it looks like is there aren’t many Americans willing to enlist because, outside ROTC and financial aid , there are no matching opportunities for young recruits in the military.
