  2. Here is an odd piece ….. Most of the Chinese furniture exports are made with poor quality lumber , except for European Exports. Here in Brazil , they used to scavenge quality structural lumber from construction sites teardowns ( mostly hard redwood known as peroba) for the European market.

  3. Brazilian Favelas earned the ignominious honours to be synonymous to Slums. What is done is done. The term Favela becomes an adopted universal reference as what a slum is like. The irony of all, you can’t even shout favelas in Brazil anymore. It is politically incorrect. You got to call them “ Comunidades “ as per communities. Go figure it

  4.  @fourthdeconstruction  You probably haven’t set in Brazil, or at least in a long while. Some Brazilian favelas have power lines , running water , sewage. They might be informal settlements , devoid of planing or elaborate architecture. But they are not as downtrodden as your wild imagination might conceive.

Here is a reasonable explanation, of a few … You add walking down the road with rowhouses at the right along curbside peddlers. And then sprawling gated mansions at the left. The houses on the right side might be grandfathered and were there before the neighborhood became posh. So it will take an astute and ruthless real estate developer to buy them out and transform them into highrises with pricey apartment units. You are sitting on the border line between haves and haves little. With twenty million , give of take , that is the possibility. Large suitable lots are hard score. The house owner or the high rise developer had to scrape or push their weight around to get to that lot.

  8. There is plenty HOAs and with that comes dues. And nosy neighbors. And limited interaction to younger generations. The ancient tribes had their villages. And granted, people want to be part of communities , by and large. At least in ancient native tribes kids lived amongst elders. This might work for people with money. For the rest of the 95 percentile , those ever increasing HOA dues are a drain in their household budget. I see how this might pick up in the Sun Belt States and in desert areas. The larger concern is ….Unless they fund every piece of infrastructure on their own nickel, they will be picking subsidies from Counties and States as usual. Which mean poor folk subsidizing well off folk quality of life.

I assume Peter is a People’s person first , so hardly much look into the the building’s infrastructure ( sewer , plumbing , disposal , broadband ) Had it been built past the 70’s , then it would feature multi level basement garage parking.

  15. The gentrification and buying in comes to savings and lending. They get the hustle part pinned down. You need more community banking from them to them. Just as Indians do in Atlanta , or Vietnamese do. If they don’t own their piece of dirt, they might end up in the desert. An odd element is … while everyone else is bolting California , these dudes are staying put. Someone with money to chase money needs to get thr light bulb in the head moment. The Asians are getting ahead in the game already.

He does not go stumble upon a locale and go bouncing around, camera in tow . He finds the types above local yokels, the ones with knowledge of how things work, who lives where, who runs what, the inner circle types who are willing to bid time. Then he toes the line , yet ask the pertinent questions as if he did not know any better. Never ever, at least on camera , someone has reacted in a defensive way against Peter. He acts very respectful. I am he does the homework on his screenplay . He would probably look a lot better on a Panama hat than that baseball cap. But I will take what he does more than any other vlogger.

  33. In Brazil , the police is to be perceived as violent in densely populated urban metropolitan areas. And so the nunbers validate. Now , as far as shaking down street civilians , on trumped up charges , at least for the past ten years , I haven’t seen or heard none of it. Maybe they let the petty criminals do it and then tax them. That situation I got once from a career burglar. An isolated account. But uniformed men doing shake downs under false pretenses …..Never. It used fo be , then I saw as a kid, that cops shook down money on violations you would rather have the punishment go away. Traffic cop stops were all that much frequent. But nowadays with candid camera and traffic surveillance cameras , that racket has been taken away from the rank and file.
