Just to make it clear , the retail rates in the existing regulated utility industry are negotiated and set by government regulators. Wholesale power rates aren’t regulated. Utility companies can go around and , under the pretense of increased demand , adjust their wholesale rates. Say goodbye to free EV recharges at your Tesla station. The only way EV car makers and charging networks can get out from under the wholesale power price squeeze is to build their own utility companies. From the power plant, through transport , and up their last mile. A very costly proposition. Once again, EV enthusiast , you’ve been had.

Free charging stations have been a way for EV manufacturers named Tesla to bait car buyers into buying their vehicles. Once you’re in , eventually “free” will give place to metered rates. . Utility companies already change power consumption rates based on supply and demand. This being an industry that failed to deregulate to allow competition. Yet charging station networks are not regulated like utility companies , just as much as you don’t see fuel stations having fuel prices being regulated. The charge by usage EV networks are already losing money on their rates. So don’t act surprised if all of the sudden you are paying just as same as your gas pump refuel for a recharge that takes a lot longer to get it topped off. Oh, and by the way, Elon will also sell you the recharging the battery pack, the charging connectors , and will mark up on converters and private label solar panels. All for your inconvenience at the recharge stations . On a side note , California green sourcing utility bills are a straight lie. They go out and buy all the power generation need , but a token percentage on green power , from Gas and Coal fired power plants. You’ve been had.
