  1. Shell can only make sense on this initiative if they file to become an utility company in every market they are in. And since they don’t own the transport lines , they can generate their own power, unless paying for transport. They will need to do so, in order to get extremely competitive wholesale rates. So they can then plant their EV Chargers into Franchisee’s or their own corner fuel stations. And then either pay rent or split revenues at retail rates. Once a critical mass of EVs are out there , it becomes a captive market. Then Shell, and other legacy utility companies will go with spreadsheets towards State or Province Regulators claiming they need to up their retwail rates to meet their overdue Capital Expenses ( CAPEX ) to upgrade their networks capacity to meet adjusted demands. At this point , with a severe drop on fuel usage , tax levied on fuel will drop. So the government will tack another percentage atop of retail rates. Since , fuel is already overtaxed. And your garden variety EV car owner will be beholden to the interest of utility companies. Paying just as same on mileage as he/she paid to refill.
