  5. You have to deal with Brazilians to begin with, and coupled with the notorious Brazilian Bureaucracy , it could make it very difficult in opening the floodgates. They claim to be hospitable , but in many cases they practice just the opposite It was fashionable to host Ukranians , but they did in limited scale, and local Ukranian Churches did most of the lifting They done ok , in letting in Syrians and Palestines , due to the heavily based Arab diaspora ( mostly Syrian-Lebanese ) Haitians, Afghans, Venezuelans, Bolivians have bore the brunt of the unwelcoming treatment. The Chinese just came in, and they are still seen with indiference and resentment by some. The Koreans made it a long ago, and they are thriving. The Cuban Doctors brought in by Dilma got turned away by Bolsonaro.

They are being courted by Mexican Officials to bring their plants to Mexico. That is a backdoor to NAFTA. The State of Nuevo León is enticing them with a Chinese designated industrial park l. That and Hong Kong bashing. Nothing to do with freedom , and all to do with capital flight in dollars. And Brazilians , as usual , playing the sucker in the middle.

  16.  @Nick-bh5bk  the Chinese could care less about some fuselage assembler. They already have their own. They care about stealing avionics , jet propulsion tech. That is where Americans and Europeans excelled. In Avionics we had Dassault ( France ) , TRW, Hughes Raytheon. , and a few others. Brazilians too import these technologies as subsystems to value add their Embraer assembled planes. The Chinese wooed GE a few years back to China as a pre condition for them to participate in the Chinese Market. Everyone else in the industry chastised GxE executives for letting the Chinese have access to GE’s manufacturing know how. Meanwhile , Pratt Whitney and Rolls Royce , who alongside G&E , dominate turbine design and manufacturing know how , toed the line and did not give in. GE brass were desperate already then.

  17.  @joaobordini3903  I left Brazil at that stage. I has my internship in the ABC at an auto parts manufacturing. They lost their bid to bonehead leadership and lack of foresight. People in the region blamed the Unions , but all of that could only muster a relocation to a different state , not overseas. Besides l labor laws then were already changing in earnest. Almir Pazzianoto was making the life of industry robber barons some even handed sentences. And Brazilians were never a fair fight to compete. They hid behind tariffs and protectionism. They has that coming for them.

ESALQ, Lavras are the equivalent of US life sciences power houses such as the National Institutes of Health , in Bethesda MD, and CDC in Atlanta, GA. And some universities. Yale is huge on biotech , and so it is Boston University. And places like UConn. And military tech as in Natick , MA. Actually , you can criticize the Brazilian Military for past transgressions in recent past, but some of their sponsored programs have yielded positive outcomes. The Brazilian Brass was instrumental in the creation of Embraer, the TransAmazonica , and I would guess they gave the nod for Agro Tech. Now this is not a validation for our former Idiot in Chief ( who managed to be expelled from the corporation ). But as a whole , caveat emperor , they got a few things right.
