  6. A hate crime is a tag on a real crime that was proven in court and then on top of that was proven to be motivated towards a group of people. For example if someone murdered someone it is murder. If there is proof that that someone murdered his victim because he was gay for example (if you can prove he searched and targeted any person that belongs to that group just to kill a guy person) then it is a murder that is a hate crime. This is not about someone that has said something to someone at work, this is a serious label which requires serious proof and is added to very serious crimes. It does not make every crime, not even serious ones against any group a hate crime. You need to first prove the crime like you normally have to then prove that it was motivated by hate towards a group
