The mark of a real Christian is compassion, which proves she isn't one. Religion attracts a lot of bad people who use it as a disguise, unfortunately.

@tdb922f People can claim they are all sorts of things - like, for example, "an intellectual" when in fact they never read books, or an "athlete", when they never do athletics - but claiming you are something isn't how you become it.

@meco4068 In America most Christians don't even know the words and actions of Christ, they only hear about God's judgements. They aren't very into the New Testament.

I am dumbfounded that he was far more concerned - "phew!" - about whether his son was gay, than he was that his son shot and murdered five people - "...oh, okay! I accept he was accused of doing that....mumble, mumble...but he's not gay! ...mumble, mumble...He's not gay!" What a bung moral compass!

@terryfall8915 I know that fallacy. But I'm not using the statement as grounds for my argument. I'm using Christ's own words as my basis for argument: Christ said to love your enemy and to love your neighbour as yourself. So, you see, my argument is based on solid grounds, direct from the very source of Christianity.

@terryfall8915 When I was a teenager my parent kicked me out of home, and it was only kind Christians who gave me a roof over my head (for months) until my other parent had the ability to put a roof over my head. They epitomised Christ's words about compassion.

@terryfall8915 Jesus said - "A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, you must love one another." That is the central tenet of Christianity. The sectarian fighting between churches is therefore a fundamental misinterpretation of Christianity. It is for that precise reason I felt it sad, but necessary, to leave organised religion.

@terryfall8915 One of my favourite people is gay, and one of my most beloved relatives is trans. As for cherry-picking the bible, can't you see that you are doing precisely that yourself when you claim it is all about hate? There is a very big difference between the old and new Testaments; the Old Testament is largely a record of tribal warfare from ancient times, whereas the New Testament begins with Christ who came to preach a new way of non-judgementalism and love. Because of this, those that quote from the Old Testament are quoting the precise attitudes that Christ came to overturn. The passage I quoted is the central tenet of Christianity, and the very reason Christ preached, it's not just a random quote. I think it's sad that so many who claim to be Christians, like Jenna Ellis, don't get that.

@terryfall8915 Just like there is in religion, there are all sorts of divisions in secular life. There's plenty of division among secular people, including atheists and agnostics, on the issue of climate change for instance. Would you tar all secular people with the brush of climate change denialism, just because some of them are climate change deniers? It wouldn't make any more sense than you tarring all Christians as hate mongers just because some of them are. I think you've fallen for the mental trap of starkly dichotomous thinking that has taken a grip on America. Anyhow, you are entitled to your opinions, and I think I will respectfully bow out of this debate now. All the best. P.s I am not a climate change denier! Not all Christians are, that, either.

@terryfall8915 Well, perhaps you'll realise you're a one-eyed hypocrite yourself, when you say that all Christians are judgemental about everyone else, as well as about other "sects" as you put it, when you yourself do the same thing, but from a non-Christian stance. And, no, whether or not Jenna Ellis is "a true Christian" isn't what we've been discussing. We've been discussing whether all Christians are judgemental, awful, unkind people. You initially took irrational offence simply because I said that there were nice Christians in the world, which my experience has proven there are. And lastly, I am defending the kind Christians in the world even though I myself am now agnostic. Not all Christians - or for that matter - Jews, Moslems, Buddhists, or any other religion, are as judgemental as Jenna Ellis, or it seems, as you.

@TheHigherVoltage Actually, he told off his followers who wanted to judge the prostitute who wanted to be near him and listen to his words. he told them to 'Judge not, lest ye be judged.' As for the last book of the bible, none of that was spoken of by Christ, it was preached by Paul. As for the story of Jesus in the temple, I never read in the bible that Jesus used a whip, only that he cast out the money-lenders and merchants who had set up shop on the steps of the temple.

@TheHigherVoltage I grew up on the official King James Version of the Bible that says no such thing. In it, Jesus simply overthrows the tables of the moneylenders and casts them from the temple. I expect at any other time you would be arguing how corrupt the church is, scamming followers in order to buy personal limousines etc (and rightly so) but in this case you want to play devil's advocate and argue that it was evil of Jesus to cast moneylenders from the Temple. That seems awfully hypocritical to me.

@terryfall8915 No, you claimed I said that Jenna Ellis was not "a real Christian" which in fact were the words of the initial commenter who sparked the long comment stream of which our comments are but a part - so once again, you're confused. But blabber on, by all means.

@terryfall8915 The person making the comment that Jenna Ellis isn't "a real Christian" is Damion Al Barr, not I. My point all along has been that I have known good, kind Christians, who have helped me, personally, in my hours of need, and that, therefor, not all Christians are unkind and judgemental like Jenna Ellis. Perhaps you should reread what I actually said.
