@hudson8865 Theodor Herzl (1860-1904) was the father of Modern Zionism. He published Der Judenstaat, elaborating upon the creation of a Jewish State, upon which he became a major figure in the Jewish world. He convened the original Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland. He is known to Israelis as the Visionary of the State, as he promoted Jewish immigration to Palestine, and he is specifically mentioned in the Israeli Declaration of Independence (something they deny Palestinians!) He is officially referred to as Father of the Jewish State.
