  1. In Australia it is a criminal offence to leave a child under 12 alone for an "unreasonable" time. "Unreasonable" does not include doing a few errands, but the time allowed is not defined. Because of this, as an abandoned mother, I was too afraid to ever leave my son alone, as, if I was arrested, there would be no-one to care for my child (as his father is a deadbeat with no sense of responsibility, or care). I have no family nearby.
