  1. Why? Because abusive men punish women who try to leave them by accusing them of child abuse so they can get full custody. Not that he cared for Sara one bit, but he spitefully wanted to hurt her mother for rejecting him. That's how abusive men operate. It is very common.

That is a common tactic of abusive and coercive controlling men: they threaten the child to say such things about the mother in order to punish the woman for daring to leave them. They try to maintain their abuse even after separation in that way. Ask any lawyer who works for a women's domestic abuse legal service. It's extremely common among abusive men.
