  1. Aussie here, and I have to say I admire the Chinese government very much. It's amazing what a people can achieve with that form of government. They are so lucky to have a clever, and seemingly, wise leader in Xi Jinping, and the rest of the party, too. The people can't decide to claw down their government and vote for "change" that hamstrings forward progress and long-term planning whenever the idiots of society feels like it. I'm not at all afraid of China superseding the US, economically.

  5. This one has really surprised me, positively! It could be possible, just possible, if this trend continues, that humanity has a chance to survive. But we're cutting it very fine! All I can say is, without China, solar energy markets would still be stuck in the 90's.

  6. Queensland has the largest solar farm in Australia, and lots of rooftop solar, but not enough battery capacity. They keep pretending we need gas peaker plants at 70x the cost of battery power - so we end up paying more and more expensive bills. Corruption is rife between the energy sector and government in Australia. 😒

  7. A lot of them these days are against lithium mining on the grounds of pollution and excess water usage, and the lack of recycling programs for EV batteries (all important issues, I concede). I try asking them how they plan to recycle the CO2 from petrol engines that can last in the atmosphere for up to 1000 years.

Thanks for getting the news out about how the state running almost entirely on renewable wind and solar has the lowest electricity bills! I hope Queenslanders hear of it, and vote on it.

  16. I WISH I could afford one - but they are still way too expensive for many people. Instead I just try to keep the bills down by turning off the water heater, and going without an air conditioner. If only the government would subsidise them, instead of subsidising transnational gas corporations to the tune of 11 BILLION dollars, just this year! If wishes were horses...

  20.  @markanthony3275  Ordinary coal and oil mining does all the things you mention, too, and THEN the vehicles and turbines pump out CO2 into the atmosphere for the ENTIRE LIFETIME of the vehicle or turbine, ON TOP OF that emitted during the initial mining.

It is so obvious that a stable political system like China's, which can assess situations and plan long-term solutions, has definite advantages over our political system in which lobbyists and donors play, and pay off one party against the other, who then sabotage any progress the other makes towards the people's benefit. It all depends on whether the bigwig puts the country first, though.

Here's an interesting point for the nuclear fanatics in Australia: Australia has electricity price at 0.26 $US/kilowatt-hr; France (with its govt. owned nuclear) has it at 0.3 $US/kilowatt-hr; and the UK has electricity prices at 0.35 $US/kilowatt-hr. So much for the myth that nuclear energy is cheaper than green renewables! 😂

  29.  @NoidoDev  Energy storage has been factored into the latest calculations, and even with storage the cost of wind and solar is significantly cheaper than the alternatives, (except hydro), which will be unreliable anyway as climate change dries up more and more watercourses. Thorium is a pipe dream. You've got to face reality someday.

  30. No, it isn't. Nuclear is the SLOWEST to build, and most EXPENSIVE power generation BY FAR. So NOT investing in nuclear is actually helping our transition to non-fossil fuel power.

  32. There is already so much CO2 rising into the atmosphere that it will take over a thousand years to reabsorb it through the carbon cycle. So I don't think we have to worry about the Earth cooling too much for a long, long time.

I THINK you should do a video about the Eavor small geothermal technology that the European Union is funding to roll out, and which has many orders in the pipeline already, and which can also be readily deployed in old coal plants, employing the same staff, with the same expertise. Small nuclear will never be price competitive with Eavor geothermal, or with solar, wind, battery installations. Besides, the waste has to be kept safe in a likely uncertain political, economic, and geologically unstable (due to climate change), future.
