  1. This one has really surprised me, positively! It could be possible, just possible, if this trend continues, that humanity has a chance to survive. But we're cutting it very fine! All I can say is, without China, solar energy markets would still be stuck in the 90's.

  2. I'm interested in Sam's sources for this story - did he cite them? Did anyone else catch them, if I missed them? I did a quick Google search of Bloomberg, but couldn't find it, myself. EDIT: I am embarrassed to admit I failed to scroll down far enough to see where Sam did in fact cite his source. My mistake!

  5. No, it isn't. Nuclear is the SLOWEST to build, and most EXPENSIVE power generation BY FAR. So NOT investing in nuclear is actually helping our transition to non-fossil fuel power.

  7. The thing is, though, is the TOTAL amount of fossil fuel generation decreasing in China, or not? Because China is increasing their OVERALL generation capacity at an astronomical rate. Hopefully, they shut down more fossil fuel capacity than they install.

  11.  @alan2102X  That's better. But it's true that we must stop building new fossil fuel power generation to stop increasing the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. We shouldn't be building ANY new fossil fuel plants at all.

  18.  @GoCoyote  I have heard of the water cooling problem occurring with nuclear power plants, and I agree that it is a huge red flag as we in Australia (and much of the world) move into inevitably drier conditions as climate change progresses. Similarly, I think it is irresponsible, in such a dry continent, in which water supplies will be more unreliable with climate change (considering that so many rivers around the world are drying up), to rely on hydro generation or hydro-batteries to replace fossil fuels. Solar, wind and batteries are the obvious choice in my humble opinion.
