According to the Australia Institute's recent report, although subsidies to the coal sector have decreased by $270 million (in 2023), they have INCREASED by $350 million to the oil and GAS sector to reach the highest total subsidies in Australian history, of $11.1 billion for 2023. Hoodwinked by the Labor party's greenwashing, Aussies concerned about climate change are unaware of the 30 year (subsidised) gas contracts Labor is locking in, at their expense.

Yes, but Sam, the contracts to increase gas and fracking for the next thirty years (with lock-in contracts) have accelerated with no sign of the corrupt protectionism abating under the present Labor government than under the previous LNP government. All that seems to have changed is the level of greenwashing plastering over the truth. Both governments engage in a corrupt protection racket aimed at keeping fossil fuels alive for as long as possible at the People's expense. Fossil fuel subsidies over the forward estimates have increased to $57.1 billion, up nearly $2 billion from 2022. That is $11.1 billion over 2022-2023, the majority going to fossil fuel gas development and protection. So they use our taxes to subsidise multinational corporations, who then charge us inflated prices (far in excess of what the price of solar and battery is), lock-in thirty year contracts with them, and then LIE to us with their greenwashing. Shame on the Labor government for lying to us; at least the LNP was open about their backward policies.
