So CO2 halved from 2014 levels...but what happened to methane levels? Which are much, much worse in the short-term. Especially as we are teetering on the brink of AMOC collapse.

@5353Jumper Nobody is suggesting we go back to coal. What is necessary is that we don't release dangerous greenhouse gases, NOT just CO2!

I was thinking the same. Geothermal is an obvious solution for winter in Germany.

@5353Jumper Actually, even very small leakage rates from natural gas systems rival coal's greenhouse gas emissions, according to a recent study conducted by environmental group RMI, which included contributing scientists from NASA, Harvard University and Duke University. That holds true at leakage rates as low as 0.2%, however the study points out that recent surveys have found leakage rates far above that of "0.65% to 66.2%." The peer reviewed study was published in the journal Environmental Research Letters. You can read about the study at : Natural Gas May Contribute to Climate Change as much as Coal, a study says: by Jeff Brady at NPR News, published on July 14, 2023.

@5353Jumper Did you read my other comment about a recent peer reviewed study that found gas leakage from gas plants may rival and exceed the greenhouse gas emissions of coal plants?

@patrickpirzer4080 You're wrong there.
