Musk has done more than any other single person on the planet to progress the Green transition and save the world from the worst of climate change. Love him or hate him, that's an incontrovertible fact. Because of that, I find these constant attacks from the Left to be, frankly, stupid. Just because he isn't a Leftist? What's your priority? Is political tribalism more important to people than preserving conditions for human life on our one and only planet?

@tethergobrrr No - by (among other things) almost singlehandedly proving that large battery technology is quite capable of, and cheaper than, coal and gas peaker plants at stabilising electricity supply, and, therefor, that there is nothing stopping the transition to wind and solar.

@tethergobrrr That's not even true. In fact he has made electric vehicles a viable option, instead of a fantasy. And the cheapest Tesla is now the same price as a Ford. Also, he has been largely instrumental in developing and distributing green battery tech to stabilise green energy for the electrical grid. He's also involved in rolling out tiny homes that are 100% solar and battery powered, can be moved on a truck, and that can be folded and unfolded for ease of construction, at a price affordable for many people without going into lifelong debt. He doesn't have to agree with everything you think to have made more of a contribution to helping this planet and its people than most people will ever make.

At least the part of the Left I'm from, who's fought many environmental battles on the ground and in the courts, right up to the Supreme Court. @_Aemse Tesla's utility scale Megapack batteries, and domestic Powerwall battery business (for storing green energy) is growing far in excess of even his electric car business, growing at a rate of 150-200 % annually. It grew 60% in the third quarter alone, last year. The demand is massive.

I got these 2022-2023 figures from a business article in Luxio, but you can find old figures from the IEA stating that electric vehicles are 10% of global car sales. In Germany electric vehicles are 32.5% of vehicle sales, in China 24%, and in the UK 23% of all vehicle sales.

@williamaycock579 Here's some context: He said that in response to the short term emergency of the Ukraine war, and cutting fossil fuels from Russia. He also said, which is fact, that fossil fuels will still be needed in the interim before we achieve a total green energy transition. Since then, there has been a huge price war in solar production in China, and Europe installed masses of solar, so the extra fossil fuels weren't needed. You shouldn't try to hide the context of quotes, mate. Since then, Musk has said the world would save trillions by completely transitioning to clean energy by 2050. Which it would, as solar and battery costs are plummeting, while fossil and nuclear generation costs are skyrocketing.

@williamaycock579 I'm well aware of that history, but we went to internal combustion engines - you do know that I hope? Also, you should check your knowledge of greenhouse gas emissions, and what contributes the most. Although there is some debate on the contribution of livestock to the total emissions, they range between 11-17%, whereas fossil fuel use contributes a massive 78% according to your EPA. Facts are important. Also, methane is a short-lived greenhouse gas, compared to CO2, which stays in the atmosphere way, way longer.

@UTubeHandlesSuck He proved that electric cars could be just as viable as combustion engines. There were none on the market before he started Tesla, which is still the market leader. Also, he is a leader in large scale battery technology for stabilising the electricity grid and making solar and wind viable options. Seeing as climate change is the worst issue humans have ever faced (it's NOT racism, bad as that is) I think he deserves a medal.

@gwine9087 The US is NOT the world. 13.2% of cars sold worldwide are electric, and Tesla is the market leader, worldwide (closely pursued by BYD). In Germany, 32.5% of vehicles sold are electric. In China, every 4th car sold is electric, UK, 23%. You've got to stop staring into your navel. The IEA says 16.5 million EV's were on the road in 2021, tripling in 3 years, and Britain, France, and Germany have pledged to ban sales of combustion engines in 2025. Meanwhile, Tesla is number one in the electric car market, and Tesla Model S and X both tripled their sales in one year.

At the moment, Tesla is making huge profits, especially growing in the Megapack battery utility storage area; Tesla made $5.382 billion in total profits in the third quarter of 2022. So, no, he didn't inherit his wealth, nor is he making his money from crypto. SpaceX is the most highly valued private company in the US.

@gwine9087 Think of all that CO2, from all those internal combustion engine cars, going up into the atmosphere and staying there for up to a thousand years, keeping the Sun's heat in as the climate gets hotter and destabilises, and melts the Arctic (and Antarctic) ice, and releases the methane from the subsea methane hydrates and the permafrost. That's why I admire Musk, for being one of the few people who are actually DOING SOMETHING about it. *And that's just with his car business, let alone his Megapack battery storage business. But you go on, and nurture your petty spite.
