  1. Psychosis comes and goes. Just because one's psychotic it doesn't mean you are unaware. Psychotic people hear voices in their heads, see things that aren't there, believe in and fear things that aren't physically there, at the SAME time as seeing what actually is there. They just believe the unreal, nonexistent thing more. They don't have the same filter as mentally sound people do. This is a very terribly sad and tragic death.

  2. They were related to the child. Why were they trying to take a child from a male relative, do you suppose? Risking imprisonment to do it? I can guess why. It's not rocket science.

  3. They risked everything, even years in prison, to rescue a a child from a sexually abusive father. That's my read of it.
