For a millisecond they made more energy than they put in; but that would have to become constant. Meanwhile, over all, 0.01% of the energy put in was produced. This won't become viable in time to save Earth from terrible climate change - it's a ploy to siphon investment money away from what already works and is commercially viable, back into something that may NEVER actually work in practice or reach actual commercial viability.
