I'm an Aussie, too, and "dumbfounded" is the exact word I used to describe my response to hearing these poll results yesterday! Are Americans being subliminally hypnotised by Fox News? What could possibly explain this?!

@HammerStudioGames Australia is way better. We aren't for voting in a fascist dictator. Americans are far more pro-authoritarianism due to their historical and continuing penchant for religion, having been founded by religious people who judged religious leaders in England as not strict enough. Conversely, Australians are anti-authoritarianism due to our country starting out as a convict colony.

@HammerStudioGames Corruption is bad here (particularly around fossil fuels, the big banks, and the supermarket duopoly), but nothing like as bad as in the US. And we don't have a criminal billionaire leading an insurrection in our country. Nor do we have an entire party of muppets willing to shut down our government and our economy in order to blackmail the other half of politics voted in by the people.
