Imagine if this research was actually developed and we knew more about the dna of autistic people, so your son could have been clearly diagnosed early. But sadly this research has been shut down now, because some people are afraid of being pathologied. Who knows how many people will go undiagnosed for years because this research was stopped.

No they absolutely should not. That’s just introducing bias. If it’s real science then the result will be the same regardless of any opinion.

I’ve heard autistic people say that it is NOT a disorder, it’s just different. Then when I point out the struggles that severe autistics have, to the point of disability, they say those people need better resources to help them live in the way they want. So it’s not a disability yet they need special resources? See, it’s not a logical position , they opt for any position that seems nicest at any one time

@justaguy7517 Dont say that. Its the prospect of a 'cure' that scares them. They will see that as genocide. I am not kidding.

@chickennugget3325 I'm not seeing what you mean. The study in question was genetic not psychological. Psychological research is not subjective. It can be psychometric tests and scales which are objective measures. Or it could be ethnographic qualitative interview based research, where the transcripts are coded for themes. But in htat type of research, the data (thoughts ,feelings, ecperiences) come directly from the participant not the reserarcher.

Unbelievable considering there is no evidence that colour played any part in the crime.

@Aarenby is all genetic research eugenics? if not why not?

Britain literally went into over a century of debt to end the transatlantic slave trade peacefully. We only finished paying that debt a decade ago! All UK adults taxes went towards paying that debt, so literally ever tax paying person in the UK alive in the last century has already payed an anti-slavery bill their entire lives.

@commentarytalk1446 Yeah a spectrum that stretches from mild to severe to disabling. So, there are still some people that are disabled by their autism.

I'd agree to reparations to afircan countires IF they too agree to pay their own reparations for all the people who became slaves or were traded within their own countries. they may find thelves completely bankrupt. Also, they should agree to completely decolonise themselves and reset themselves to how they were before European contact - pull down the schools, the hospitals, take away raods and railways and plumbing and electricity, and governments and buildings with more than one story.

3:56 ‘we are still at the stage where autist is seen as a disorder’. Oh she thinks it’s not a disorder! Ok , defund all special education classes and resources immediately! If it’s not a problem then let’s just put autistics in ordinary classes with no special treatment.

@Aarenby Yes thats why the study asked for dna from people who were already confirmed autistic. With that diagnostic context, you can discern which markers correlate with autism, by comparing that dna to non-autistic people.

I would love to ask Robert Beckford where his glasses came form, where all those books behind him came from, where his suit came from, where his university degrees came form,.

By your definition any genetic research is eugenics. I did 23 and me. It told me about my genetic likelihood to get Alzheimer’s and diabetes. Is that eugenics? Should that be stopped? Should we remain ignorant about every genetic condition ? Is that moral?

It just shows. These two people went to the same school, so they therefore lived in nearby areas, and had similar socio-economic status. Yet one became a judge, the other a burglar. Individual choices make the difference in life - not everything can be put down to inequality.
