  1. I think one important thing is the emotions of the adult. I remember being hit a few times, and it was a hurtful shocking experience and I remember them all. It was because I was deeply disturbed by the fact that my parent was genuinely angry and lost control, and hurt me to vent their own emotions at me. Thats what hurt. I think it could have been totally different if they were totally calm, and explaining what they were doing and why. Like how there's an extreme difference between shouting with aggression and speakingly assertively with confidence.

  2. I appreciate the discussion on this topic and I'm not sure what I think myself. I note that as parents have stopped hitting, we have , as a Western culture, retained shouting. Shouting is basically the same - you shout to hurt their ears, and to cause fear. Its just the same as physical punishment, if not worse.

  3. Im intruiged! Can you brefily explain the link between Quakers and the Occult? And also what do you mean by 'put in a skinner box'. I know what a skinner box is in psychology, but how and why would you put a toddler into one?
