Yes and they were traveling for a census right? Why would a king order a census in midwinter , which would mean lots of travel and populations being concentrated in small areas, which would cause food shortages

@SimoneandMalcolm To support your point, in Bethlehem it can drop to 0 C in winter, so night time in winter is cold. But I don't think 'disease risk' is valid here, as common people lived in close proximity with animals, had them walking through the streets, so nobody had any intiutions about the hygiene of animals. But wait - if the winter census makes sens because people return to their home villages, then why were all the inns full? If they are returning to their family home, then they would stay with family, surely.
