This is more of a proof that there are subconscious mental processes going on, than the lack of free will. This is why we have the conscious, and abstract thoughts to maybe be a final arbiter.

@henkiemeneer9416 I think we cannot discuss the topic of free will separately from the topic of consciousness. Without definitely answering the questions of what is consciousness, why do we have consciousness if everything is determined, how it affects our decision making, discussing free will solely based on the very basic physical properties of existence is rather moot, as there are layers and layers of abstractions above. And by just looking on the lower layer you often cannot predict what would emerge on higher layers.

@henkiemeneer9416 Your initial premise seems like a false equivalence, or reductionism to me. In one case matter just changes its physical form depending on the external condition. In the other is a complex emergent system that clearly has its function and plays a certain role. Concepts of free will and consciousness are interlinked, if everything is determined why even to be conscious at all? If consciousness is there to help us deal with a level of inherent unpredictability (propagated from the quantum world) - that'd make more sense. There is affect on downward layers from upward layers too. That's what makes the whole system complex.

@henkiemeneer9416 "Why do you think so highly of yourself? Just because it feels weird to be you, we must pull some magical theories out of the closet to explain it away?" What kind of an argument even is that? "To an atom, a human doesn't exist. To a human, an atom does exist." And a human can manipulate the atom. For example, to make it split and exploit it in creating a nuclear bomb. "There is only upwards causality." Above example disproves you. Higher layers of abstraction can affect lower layers. Another example, from medicine: some genes (lower layers) can be activated or deactivated depending on the life style (higher level) of the person. But I'll leave you with your simplistic reductionist beliefs.
