Consciousness is evolutionary byproduct. Obviously, having a working mental model of the world around increased survivability. So, the consciousness ability grew over generations.

@jamesragsdale8202 My stance is that it was a gradual evolutionary development, reflected in the development structure of our brain that we see right now. Consciousness is not a binary trait. It is not something that only humans have - many animals have it to a various degree.

@jamesragsdale8202 I see you take reference to generations as something encompassing only recent history, and only applied to humans. But we had new generations of life since the dawn of times.
