As it always happens IRL, to crush a strike the higher ups try to split the people, in this case fuel the feud between moderators and the community. It's true there were always tensions between the two, due to the power discrepancy. The moderators were kind of a middle men between the owners and the community, they were voluntary managers. It's a job not everyone would want to take willingly. It takes certain kinds of people, some are in it to realise their power fantasy, no doubt. But moderation is still needed on popular subreddits, otherwise the crowds of people would trash the places. So, there is good with the bad. Obviously, API changes hurts the moderator class the most. Should the community support their strike against the greedy owners. I think we should. Otherwise the owners get it their way.

The hypocrisy of reddit official response is shining.
