That's the crux of the issue, SystemD gets so integrated into the system that you can't just pull it out as a component - there's too many dependencies in other software. What you have to do is rebuild the whole system from the ground.

Alternative: "Pick your next Linux distro with DistroRoulette!"

@IainNitro I think SystemD brough more fracturing to the Linux community, as if there ever was more needed for that. Since many main distros adopted SysD they pretty much dropped support for alternative init systems. Which in turn spawned separate distros with a sole pupose of having alternative init systems. That's not a good sign that in order to have a different init system you pretty much have to maintain a separate distro. Ideally you should be able to easily switch init systems without having dependencies on concrete implementation. It's a classic systems engineering problem. Solution: we need more abstraction - a standard interface for init systems that all modern init systems should adhere to.

To use search you must know exactly what you are looking for beforehand. While hierarchical data structure (e.g. folders) allows you to browse and see parent/child relations.

@Scott Seufert Having no posessions means having no security when things go bad.

And people love it! Every f*cking Linux video suggests Etcher to flash distros!

Flipping toy language!

@BrodieRobertson Google search, and applying AI maybe. But it's still limited AFAIK. And search doesn't show relations.
2
@Scott Seufert Exactly, they're supposed to represent real money. But they are just bits of information which can be erased.

Also, gatekeeping leads to the lack of userbase, lack of userbase eventually leads to the death of the opensource project. Thanks, elitism!

Mutiple monitors still gonna be cheaper than an expensive VR for desktop work.

Another rock in the pond of Linux instability, good fucking job amature Linux devs!

"If you can't beat them - lead them!"

@billeterk Kind of. Hierarchies are build on many to one relations. While tags is inherently many to many relations. For human mind it's simpliest to visualize and comprehend parent/child hierarchies. While "many to many" would result in a complex graph.

Let purists be purists :)

Plebs will use cloud computing, personal computing will become rare and expensive, and especially gaming will become a luxury, already is actually.

VR desktops: Bring your eye strain to the next level!

Too much time spent on zooming. Not practical.

@Scott Seufert You added 'physical', not me.
1
@Scott Seufert I didn't specify, because I meant any posessions. Well, you know the account you have in the bank, the numbers there are pretty virtual.

Many problems in Linux ecosystem stem from good old elitism and tribalism.

Leave Britney [FSF] alone!

Centralized - cheaper, more effective, integrated, single point of failure. Decentralized - more expensive, less effective, but more robust. There are pros and cons to everything.
1
That is 100% going to happen, cause that's where the money is!
