  2. I love Seneca, but the first quote is simply naive. Man is not a naturally gentlest being. And animals don't live in peace with each other - there is a constant fight for survival in nature. And because the man is still an animal in many aspects we have conflicts and wars over resources.

  4. Now stoics are silly here. Animals live in peace? In fantasies maybe. Animals live in a constant struggle of survival, which always includes conflicts with other animals for resources. Now us humans, still being animals, we are still fighting over resources - i.e. who are more worthy to have them. So long as there are limited resources - human wars will never end. That's one of the basic rules of nature. Stoics, while talking a lot about 'nature', should have known that.
