  122.  @bearyhot  I can list the good qualities of conservatives, I needed to understand them in more detail to better communicate with them. Most do not overtly back white supremacy but end up tacitly supporting it because they stand beside actual hard core racists who also contribute to the narrative. From an outsiders perspective Sherry's opinion has some generic merit. Conservativism is literally about group think, conformity and promotion of the status quo. This is easily confused as racism when the status quo has deep racist underpinnings from our past that in living memory were the standard and have not been erased. I disagree with her that all conservative are morons, most of just unsophisticated or poorly informed on key issues but they are not innately stupid or greedy. Their leaders consistently represent the worst traits of the group. I would argue that these conservatives leaders either cynically say stupid things to appeal to the base or have been convinced of nonsense themselves. The people who really understand the platform and what the GOP actually fights for are pretty bad people and are consistently greedy or directly seek policy that enriches their ingroup as a focus. Most conservatives are not that brand of fail. They are otherwise good people that have swept up by terrible leaders because their primary focus is continuity and moving toward a rosy picture of some imagined past they idealize. That is what the GOP sells. They have been tricked and misdirected by empty wedge issues and overt misinformation about those they oppose as not just in opposition but as evil. Any group that radically demonizes the another does so to bind them closer and helps the individual dismiss the ideas of others as wrong before evaluation. This is a 2 for 1 as it effectively strawman's opposing policy while satisfying a deep need to belong that is desired by the conservative mind. In the case of policy I do not see the two groups as equal in the veracity of what they demand. The conservatives have become overt tools of corporates lackeys' as have those who worship establishment democrats. Both these political leadership's would focus on identity nonsense over change in pursuit of the stasis that their donors love. One party has independent non corporately owned leadership and one does not. Until the conservatives steak some ground away from the corporatists they will consistently be called greedy and racist by outsiders because of who owns them and a blind need to defend broken things just because they are a legacy. There is a strong as of yet unanswered desire among the conservative electorate to change this dynamic. The Tea party and more recently their broad support for Trump shows a deep desire to move away from the status quo of the old school establishment republican leadership. This is clear recognition their existing leaders have been deeply problematic even before the orange man baby came along to break the republican mold and throw them into chaos.

  630. @soul seeker My point is pretending Trump is anti war or better than the dems on this issue is silly. He is a member of the GOP who never saw a war they did not like. They are the party of Iraq and Afghanistan who has been hungry to start a war in Iran for decades. Trump ran on being better than Hillary but after getting in office has proved to be just as war centric as any GOP who has ever held the office even as he mouths anti war platitudes everyone should now laugh at. If at this point if you need more data to show the GOP are war mongers I am not sure anything I share will change your mind. Can you prove he brought home lots of troops? It should be easy. The fact is he did not, he expanded our military foot print in to new places we never had boots on the ground before. He did increase our military budget by over 100 billion, what did he spend that on pop guns? He increased already record drone strikes which are undeclared acts of war still not war. He assassinated foreign leaders on foreign soil, is that an act of peace? He blew up Russian fighter jets while punishing another country, does that make war more likely or less? Is that the act of a pro peace president? Obama did not start any new wars by your silly standard either. So by your spin because Obama did not do any of the things above and had less drone strikes than Trump so he was a better pro peace president? The fact is Trump escalated what Obama did. He is more a pro war president than Barry was, if you cede that truth I will let you wallow in your delusion un-challenged because at least you will be consistent.

  683.  @Vanderearden  So they should not have voted for the cares act and that would help how? Do tell how they voting for the only from of stimulus (even if pathetic and weak) that was going to be passed when it was going to pass anyway is some kind of fail. As you talk about them re-upping the patriot act you ignore the fact it was crammed inside the budget and not only did the squad fight it they were one of the ten who voted against the resolution adding it. They fought it's inclusion and opposed the measure. It passed because they did not have enough support to remove it. The failure was not theirs and there was nothing they could have done to stop it. To say they voted for re-uping it is technically true but they represented the only opposition to the blanket support for the measure form corporate democrats. I have a hard time seeing that as anything but a numbers fail, it was not an abdication of what they said they would do. The issue is not they have the same problem as the establishment democrats as you tacitly assert with your spin. It is that the shills and sellouts still control the process and dump whatever they want into bills and their agenda has little to do with ours. Do you honestly think if the squad or Bernie was driving the patriot act would have been included? We would have passed such a weak and pathetic stimulus? The squad has not sold out they just do not have enough power to drive the bus as you seem to expect them to. I do not support bad votes but I look at them in context and attempt to see where they come from instead of choosing the most hyperbolic and defeatist spin out there. Like I said earlier, I never questioned your "facts", just your interpretation of them. Your characterization of the squad enthusiastically embracing establishment is empty from what I can see. They still seem the be hated and and all were primarieried with big donor money and none are speaking at the convention. So much for endorsement that does not exist. When you say silly stuff like they are carrier politicians you are using republican talking points and that is almost never a good thing. This spin ignores the many good polices they push or how they have moved the overton window back from the edge of a right wing cliff in a very short time. You are pointing at problems whose real focus is built on the total lack of control the progressives have in government. That they are forced to vote for bills set by leaders who do not and never will share our values will mean garbage gets pushed in. That being said you are treating them like they are all Joe Manson or queen Nancy herself and I see it as unfounded and border line dishonest spin. Happy to stay in touch, I find your brand cynicism honest and refreshing. It comes from the right place, but I no longer share it.

  846.  @dodioxoopey8843  The dif in this case is they are not blaming nameless Russians who will never see court. There was enough evidence in those cases there were charges laid against the hackers even if they will never see trial. Criminal charges. As for trump there was a great deal of evidence he was associated with the Russians. 4 of his staff went to jail for various lies or crimes they committed on his behalf that surfaced as a result of the investigation. Because the GOP chose to forgo their oaths and let Trump walk scot free does not mean there was no there there. Trumps cronies attempted to say the voting machine manufactures rigged the election. Making that claim has fallout and is liable if false. These corps care about their ability to continue to prosper more than rigging any election. Conflating what the the Sydney Powel said about this election and what was done post 2016 where actual charges were laid does not make sense. In one case they had enough evidence to proceed in court, in 2020 they never never did. Like I said we will see either way as they sue Sydney and she defends herself with evidence or she is ruined. Anyone who did what Trump did would be banned off any service with a TOS. Starting a riot is considered bad everywhere. Big tech is about making money, not politics. They silence the actual economic left as much as targeted groups on right and every time it is to protect profits and advertising. Look at any choice they ever make as financial and you will better understand their motivations. No one is silencing anyone, actually Trump still has more free speech than either of us. He can call a press conference any time. He has no right to anyone's service just like I have no right to use your backyard without your permission Even the standard actual free speech in the 1st has distinct limits. I can not yell fire in a crowded theater and neither can Trump.
