  1. It is because the states are progressive but their elected leaders are corporatist and serve the donors first. The democratic electorate is very progressive, the leadership of the DNC and many of their donors do not have an progressive economic bone in their body. Backstopped by the corporate media who burn down every progressive priority as too expensive while ignoring the cost of establishment policy is par for the course. We have a broken status quo where most of leaders elected by progressives are basically 90's republicans when it comes to economics and it serves the owner class well. They get tremendous payback on investment.
