Strangely though, the very first recorded instances of numbers being used for quantities larger than could be counted on hands, etc...was for recording possessions/property/land areas and the like. More seemingly associated with measuring wealth in other words. Many very primitive tribes still today have no concept for numbers larger than just a "few" of anything at all. Many consisted of just words that meant, "one" of something, "two" of something, & "more than two" of something, with a word akin to "a few" of something being applied to numbers ranging from more than two up to even dozens and no real numbering at all specifically. Some have no numbering/counting systems at all! The introduction of "civilized" societies and sciences introduced the concept to many locations for the first time of numbers larger than just a few. Starts to look like the counting of things/math's beginnings are most closely related to the idea of "ownership" of stuff, and not tied to humans fumbling along and learning the concept of numbers and what we know as math growing from there.
