  1. @UCYussbDOYv7tE9FTAp6Cm7Q Your correct. Shelter is a basic human need and now out of the reach of many people. The system is too oppressive and expensive. I'm 57, have never owned a home and likely never will. Being single and having an income on the lower steps of the economic ladder I simply can't afford it. Lack of housing keeps one stuck in survival mode rather than thriving. What Jordan doesn't mention is the system we live in is based on competition rather than cooperation. A competition based system means there will be winners & losers. Human nature leads to a dog eat dog mentality when we are all competing with each other for limited resources.

  2. My dad wanted kids but he didn't know how to be a father. My life has been an example of the difficulty in overcoming one's early conditioning & lack of proper parenting. At this point I have a lot of regret and I've given up the hope that I'll ever be truly happy.

  4. Due to my choices in life I've accepted that I will never be happy. A depressing perspective but it's easier to lower my expectations of life at this point and just try to be content with what is. I think one can always change but entering a later phase of life one begins to understand that one's options become limited as time goes on....like raising a family for example becomes out of reach.

  5. Well sure, open spaces. I've lived in the west for 25 years but how much of this land is habitable and can support people living on it? Most of the West is arid & desert. Where does the food come from? Where does the water come from? There are already serious water shortages everywhere & underground water sources that took mellenia to form are being sucked dry. The forests are being chopped down and take generations to regenerate if they can at all. Just because there's open spaces doesn't mean it can support life. It's not so simple.

  8.  @topthermite9253  Not the whole story. I'm good looking & been an athlete my whole life but having a career & overcoming early conditioning has been difficult. Women want to be supported & taken care of....financially, emotionally, sexually. I've never had a problem attracting women, it's keeping them that hasn't worked out.

  12. At some point greed & corruption always takes over in affluent societies and the empire implodes. It's a cycle throughout human history. Empires come & go and we're witnessing the slow motion implosion of the American empire.

For some life beats us down more than others and we all know life is not fair but it's our reaction to it that really determines our path. I'm realizing at 57 how difficult it is to rise above one's conditioning & upbringing. Not an excuse, just an observation.

  18.  @stephenmarcus9601  My conditioning to believe in the idea of unconditional "true love" has over my life, been shaken to the core. I thought I had this at one time and it simply fell apart. My personal experience has now taught me that this is naive and with the exception perhaps of a parent's love for a child, human love is conditional. Certainly in the arena of romantic love anyway. Human nature means we are are always looking for the best deal for ourselves & if a partner doesn't live up to those expectations then the bond is easily broken.

  20. I've always failed to understand why this would be a negative thing. So your genes don't get carried on so what? I never bought into Darwin's theories about humans being reduced to animals fighting to "spread their seed" as being the singular driving force in a human life.

  26. That's a bit young. Young people should explore, experiment, adventure, or invest in a skill or career. But as one getting on in years I advise don't wait....specially if you meet that true love. Definitely by late 20's early 30's get serious about those things. I wish someone had given me advice & direction and perhaps I wouldn't be living a life full of sadness & regret.

  27. Good point. In general humans are too busy on the planet.....the rat race helps no one but the top 1% who want to horde everything for themselves. It would serve us and the planet better to be less busy & destructive, grow ourselves internally and spiritually. The answers are not external and never have been.

I was raised Calvinist and have a lot of trauma and anger about the life depraving conditioning I was subjected to. It's taken me a lifetime to heal from it. I do believe in a higher power or consciousness, just not a vengeful and jealous one. Religion has much to answer for in this broken world.

  30. Population argument aside, there is the fundamental reality of living unsustainably on a planet with finite resources. Judging from our history and the arc of humans on this planet I don't see the wisdom or evolution of the species to change our ways before it's too late. Seems inevitable that there is going to be a massive die off of the species and soon.
