If you look at world currency history, there were 6 major world currency periods. Portugal started the trend since 1450 -1530 . Spain = 1530 -1640 , Netherlands =1640-1720 , France =1720-1815 , Great Britain =1815-1920 and USA =1921 to today .

BRICS Nations pegged their new currency to Gold . USD are fiat currency. Just paper monies.

I'm not sure if we can buy BRICS currency as such . But what we as an individuals can do is to buy local currency of these BRICS Nations or invest in their stocks/Shares. From what I've heard, the Chinese Yuan will be BRICS Nations reserve currency. We'll know more as time goes by.

France ? France is wedded to the euro . The eu would not allow that to happen. The only way that they can do it is for them to leave the euro. That's not going to happen.

@MM-ex4gg I don't think it's about the not so powerful nations. As Neil just said, because the smaller countries are nervous about being sanctioned or going bankrupt because of the exchange rates every time their countries importing goods from abroad , they have to change their own currency to USD first of all .

@ChrisC-Pi You're welcome. Well, from what I understand, all these BRICS Nations/and all the would be members are buying gold reserves. They will still trades in their own local currency with other members , and using Yuan as their reserves currency. For example, China can buy Saudi oil with their Yuan . The Saudis can buy microchips from India say , with Saudi Riyal etc .
