What "wildlife rehab" place would not realize the poor fox had broken legs? I found a fox baby so encrusted in mange that she could barely see hear or smell, and i had to stomp when I took her food so that she could feel me coming. Even w her horrible condition, I was able to get a look at the rest of her to make sure she was okay. Our county said we aren't allowed to rescue a fox and they could come out to kill it during the week, or we had to hire someone to kill her. Long story short we met Mary at Back To The Wild rehab in Southern Maryland and she retrieved the fox, after we treated it for a week w ivermectin. Mary bathed her multiple times a day for the first few days and then kept her through the winter until spring when she got special permission from her acquaintance to release the fox on a huge protected plot of land owned by Smithsonian w some feeding stations and a river to help the fox starting out. It was also monitored for trespassers, but the land was too huge to be secured and still free for animals to roam. Kudos to everyone who helps instead of saying don't interfere with nature. Humans have already interfered to a deleterious point of no return, so we are obligated to help.

I cared for 3 raccoons at a wildlife sanctuary, and they were so sweet. I would always take them a treat like peach cobbler and they would line up, take it w their little hands, and go to the back of the line and wait for the next piece. So courteous and patient.

I transferred 13 rats from a shed, where a neighbor kept opened animal food. It took 4-5 nights, but I got it done before the weather got too cold. After I transferred them to a wooded spot at the far end of a school football field, I fed them and gradually stopped after 6 weeks. I didn't want to abandon them without any food and water, until they adapted a little bit.

@Seemydimples I love that! The first time my dog got a bandaid on his upper arm, he had his arm sticking straight out as if he couldn't bend it for the rest of the day. I had to turn sideways to carry him in the house. After that, I had to buy special Superman boo-boo strips for any tiny thing (after I first had to kiss it better). He lived for the attention that the bandaids garnered when we were out on our walks❤

I wonder how many people walked past him. Someone chipped him and he prob knew what a home was at some point in his life. Now he has a home again, and can sleep without being hungry, cold, or scared.

I accidentally bonded w some rats last summer. 1 turned into 3, turned into 6... At 13, I knew I had to take care of it before someone else would. I got a "rattinator" live trap for $100, and started leaving food and propping it open at night. I started trapping them before it got too cold, and took them to some woods at the end of a school soccer field. It took me a week to get all of them, and another 6 weeks of leaving food and water while they learned to fend for themselves. I felt responsible bc I was feeding them mistakenly, believing they were some of the orphaned groundhogs that I helped earlier in thr summer. I didn't know the animal collector next door had new toys i.e. ducks, and left the food out which attracted many animals including the foxes who killed the first 2 sets of ducks.

I'm so happy and so sad at the same time. I'm so grateful that he was able to shine for 2 years, but I hate that he was ever caged after having his owner ( who he probably didn't know why the owner was gone or why he was alone).

Animals and their helpers are the antithesis of hunters or those who harm animals. Many people have been conditioned to think that hurting a pet is unacceptable, but torture and death in factory farming is okay. How someone treats animals let's you know how they will treat their family and friends if their comfortable way of living is at risk. Beware of those who think it is okay to hunt or hurt eg Alex Murdaugh and his sons. Eventually they will justify or rationalize hurting anyone.

I bike the B&A trail through anne arundel a few times a week. Seeing undated signs is depressing. People should date the signs and write that they will remove them or ask for a call before removing. I also have helped people look for dogs in the area, and fast food restaurants allowed us to put signs in the drive thru windows which resulted in a customer who worked at the airport call us to say he thinks he saw a dog along the airport cargo fence line. The dog was in the perimeter fence when we found him. It was a grueling 3 days of going through the woods in the airport parks where people bike and watch planes taking off. Date signs, use fast food drive thrus.🐶

I couldn't have said it any better. Jenna is a lucky girl, but so too is the couple for being able to have her and eachother. I live vicariously through YouTube sanctuary channels. Takis' made me sad at how inhumane people are, but hopeful bc of people like him, the cat guy who feeds cat colonies every morning 365 days/yr, and others like them.

She also poops and tells her ma that saber did it. Her channel is hysterical especially when she teases her mom and says Mom has feathers but Cosmo has hair😂

@lalaabril6452 rescues for all types of animals, often need volunteers. It is mutually fulfilling bc the rescue gets help and the volunteer gets to spend time w the animals. Like being a grandma, you get to see the kids but give them back and go home❤

@mjhmn thank you. Tbh, on nights w bad weather I would still put treats in the trap, but I wouldn't close the exit door. That way they knew there was still food showing up, but wouldn't be stuck in the trap for too long. One night it was rainy and chilly, but I forgot to leave the exit open. There were 2 adults and 2 young, angry rats the next morning. I warmed a blanket in the dryer, and put it over the trap. It warmed them and calmed them down simultaneously. FYI, if you ever trying to help an animal, it helps immensely to cover their eyes or the carrier. I've rescued a few animals, and it was amazing how fast they calmed down. I usually just throw a pillowcase or a towel over birds or little critters.

It reminds me of my baby who passed not too long ago. I found him and he was so polite, loved all animals, and never barked. The only quirk was him running all over on walks/ drags. It was like flying a kite in a tornado whipping my arm back and forth. Within 12 months he had me trained and ditched the polite act. He learned how to bark from the neighbor dogs, started blowing puffs of air on my face when he wanted me to wake up, and loved teasing / playing w the cats. I didn't know I was capable of unconditional love or the pain of this kind of heartbreak. I don't think I can ever go through this pain again, and he set the bar so high that I know it would be nearly impossible to meet another like him. It's been a little over a year and nothing seems to help.

@rosalynne8792 ty! I have helped any animal that isn't dangerous or a vector. I accidentally was feeding a momma rat w 2 tiny babies, bc I thought it was an annual groundhog. I still toss bread and leave water for any animals who may need it. I made a wild mouse a home of his own, so he wouldn't awaken me at night while looking for treats. I let him outside when the weather warmed.

@MeRiaNevaMynd I volunteer at a primate sanctuary, & most of the monkeys were pets who became violent once puberty kicked in. It is v sad.

But we saw her pay him for his services, do Disney princesses let the birdies grab a twenty on the way out?

@kimhancock5965 I know I'm late but ty for spreading the word on rats. When I first started college classes, there were mice used for basic psych classes (required class nobody cared about should not subject animals cruel existence & demise, probably someone made a fortune selling mice bc they breed so easily). I took 4 mice w me over winter break bc I knew they would be killed or die at the school. They were v sweet & smart & taught me that all animals deserve compassion. Recently: my trashy neighbors leave food in their yard and attracted rats. 2 turned to 6 bc of cute babies, and then 14. Neighbor was going to kill them, so I had to buy $100 "ratinator" trap. It took a month to trap and transport them to the woods, and then leave food and water in the woods until they hopefully adjusted over 8 weeks. I hope they did okay, all animals deserve kindness (except fleas & ticks).

I feel like my dog saved me, I would kill for him.

@anna_in_aotearoa3166 it is a huge industry w laws against it, but the laws aren't enforced. There are disgusting humans who sell legal wild animals but will offer to get you anything you want, inc endangered or almost extinct animals, for the right price. It is awful.

Apostate dawah so a chicken's lifespan isn't >20 mos? Was it too hard to Google, or do you just like making stuff up and being a professional expert in reply threads?? Boo's mom also made sure to say that as a pet, it has an avian veterinarian to help address healthcare issues . Google is your friend B, use it. You're welcome😘

@1:16 after the massage she sounds like she's a squeaky toy deflating.

@bearyhot tbh, so many people don't have any preparation if they are young and healthy. I'm a RN and preach all the time but don't have my living will. I have made my 2 closest people know all my wishes and I will haunt them if they put me on life support.

I made a terrarium house for a mouse who was keeping me up at night. I trapped him and cleaned him off then put him in the house for a couple of days w bedding, food and water. Then I made little steps and left it open so he could come and go but not bother me at night. Eventually, the weather got warmer so I showed him the door (and I was leaving for a month and would be unable to feed him). He was a cutie 💓

I would "love to tell [her] how grateful..." I am that she met and rescued him. He needs a calendar w all his different adorable faces, to bring people joy every time they look at it.

@fredholtzinger3761 I helped a pigeon when I was younger. He was spit out of car wheel-wel and was banged up so he needed rest. After a few days, he was my buddy and taught me so much about their intelligence. My mom insisted on putting him outside when he got better, but I always worried if he did okay bc it was February.

@stevedriscoll2539 thanks.

My boy would get so upset if anything changed without letting him know. If I left the vacuum out while he was asleep, he would be v upset when he discovered it. If neighbors moved their trashcan, he'd stop and keep pacing in front of it. He had so many quirks that I thought were goofy, but became his funniest traits.
