Sometimes we need to reach out to those who are like we were as kids. I have had nursing jobs at juvenile justice where MANY of the kids do not list bio parents as their emergency contact or their number one adult, it is usually a sibling or an adult who stepped in as a mentor. I'm trying to save a neighborhood kid near my school. He's only a few years younger than me, but he dropped out in middle school. I had a tough teacher who forced me to take college credits in highschool, so now I'm not yet 21 but am an RN who is going to med school. My Mother would never go to any of my graduations, so I never will bother to attend even though I'm still forced to pay for Commencement fees. My mother doesn't even know what I'm in school for.

@life_withl have you read the book: Piece Of Cake? It is almost identical to this girl's story and many of our own stories. The little girl was nicknamed Cupcake and she was ripped from her stepfather by fostercare system of California. It is an excellent story that I finished in no time bc I couldn't put it down. Asriah should read it as an example of how it's done.
