If there is frontal lobe damage, there are often strong changes in personality and behavior. So many cases where the person seems to be the opposite of what they once were eg a belligerent man becoming passive, while a passive patient person becomes someone w poor impulse control, promiscuity, alcohol etc

@smashingpumpkin999 it's a double edged sword. It usually takes a lot of time to find the perfect balance of meds. For teens to early 20s, it is exacerbated by the fact that their brain is still developing and chemistry /hormones are still changing so the meds need to change w it. Also, late teens to 20s is when certain mental illness starts to reveal itself, which can make it far worse.

@lc4life369 I feel so sad that you went through that, but it sounds like you were on something strong. Doctors are supposed to start low /weak and progress based on your response. Psych meds aren't an exact science and it can take awhile to find the right mix and dosages. Also, your brain chemistry changes, especially from teen years, so meds need to be adjusted to accommodate changes. Meds like SSRIs absolutely save lives. Perhaps the doctor was more to blame than the Rx. I had horrible panic attacks for awhile (3 trips to the ER)and used benzos but was quickly hooked. They should be only be prn and not a standing order as a mental crutch. I'm still anxious all the time, but I am learning to cope sans alcohol or benzos.
