@davebrown9725 The English language ORIGINATED in ENGLAND so the OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY is the ULTIMATE AUTHORITY on the language and ALL other dictionaries of the language must be BASED on the Oxford Dictionary, as is the case with the MacQuarie Dictionary published here in AUSTRALIA!

@davebrown9725 The only people who speak "American" in America are the native Indians, just as the only people who speak "Australian" in Australia are the native Aboriginal people of this continent. We of European descent speak English but here in Australia the only additions we make are some "colloquialisms"(slang words), many of which were derived from old English slang but have fallen out of use in recent years. Other than that we have stayed relatively true to our Mother Tongue but you Americans are so much like the two-year-old toddler that arrogantly claims to know more than its grandparents. This is why America cannot, and should not be taken seriously.
